A great place to stay,

Our personal mission was to go hiking through the endless options of lake, mountains and forests daily, and soak in the personal hot tub nightly, whilst enjoying the high quality kaiseki for dinner every night.
Here are the important observations for you:
Getting around.
Local Transportation/ taxis is extremely limited! So pay close attention to the local bus time table that runs intermittently , and be prepared to walk if you’re out of sync, we walked in and out of the lakeside village along the track in about 25 minutes, which was well worth it, almost better than the bus!
The hotel is set well off the main road, the 10 minute walk up the hill from the road to the hotel totally sucks, especially with luggage, but there are monkeys and an eagle flying overhead, so that was a trade off/ highlight.
The hotel has a mini bus that will take you up and down the mountain to Nikko, a great little town filled with restaurants, a major train station to Tokyo and great local produce stores.
The road up and down from the lake to Nikko is actually world famous, and appears in several movies and video games, so there’s lots of sports cars and motorcycles doing the run.
the hotel mini bus driver drove it like a veteran, and I wish I had known about it beforehand as I would have ridden along with her a few more times.
The rooms
We got a traditional Japanese room with tatami Matt’s and a traditional private hot tub.
Rooms are cleaned every three days, and your traditional bedding is only laid out once, unlike other ryokan who usually do it daily.
Your spa is filled once per stay, and there is a “bath bar” downstairs with salts and herbs to add to the mixture.
Your personal spa area gets very warm and steamy, so be sure to run the aircon and dehumidifier full time in your bedroom.
Overall a wonderful experience, good value, excellent hiking and would happily come back again
