Customer service, as only the Japanese can master!

This morning at 6AM, we checked out of the hotel to get the bus to the airport. Since we had paid for breakfast, which only begins at 7AM, we had ordered breakfast boxes as an alternative, for pick up at 6:30AM. My wife decided she wanted to get an earlier bus to the airport. So before going to bed, I asked the front desk if the breakfast boxes could be ready at 6AM. Because the kitchen staff only arrives 6AM, they emphatically said it would not be possible. When we got to the front desk to check out at 6AM, I asked the young man to let the kitchen know to cancel the breakfast boxes. And we were quite fine with it all - we totally understood the limitations. We set out to walk to the bus stop. As we were arriving there, the front desk man pulled up beside us in his car and came running to give us the boxes!! I have never experienced such kindness and extra effort in the hotel industry. I mean, who does that? We were deeply moved by his kindness and we will never forget it. That act says so much about Japanese kindness; it is a place where a desire to “do things the right way” still directs the behaviour of the people. I didn’t get the young man’s name, but I hope he will see this review and I hope he will know that we will tell the story of his kindness act to others for the rest of our lives.

The breakfast is good with 2000 yen per pax. Many varieties of food, also blue sea ice cream. The hotel is new, very clean, free parking, good location nearby American village, staff friendly and excellent service. Good value for money, my best hotel in Okinawa. For sure to stay again if travel to Okinawa. TQ.
