A quiet and beautiful location on a lovely island
After travelling in south western Japan for a while this was a perfect place to relax, the gardens are lush, beautifully laid out and have great mountain views, the outdoor spring fed bath took the relaxation to a higher level! The house itself is a lovely, comfortable well crafted building, we dined in, enjoying the quiet evenings, the kitchen has everything you'd need and the Acoop supermarket in nearby Anbo is well stocked. If you don't hire a car it's an easy walk from the bus stop to Hana Mana and the bus service is, as you'd expect, very good. If you enjoy gardens you'll love Hana Mana and you'll enjoy the Botanical Research Park, just a stroll down the road.

Absolutely wonderful, beautiful place to stay in Yakushima.
Our stay at Hana Mana was absolutely brilliant . We stayed for 2 nights but I would recommend a minimum of 3 to really get the most out of your stay on Yakushima. The property owners are gracious hosts and very helpful. They can pick you up from the port and drop you off which makes it easier. The house is a beautiful cottage with homely interior and state of the art appliances. The cottage is situated in a grassy clearing surrounded by lush tropical rainforest. You can sit on the porch and watch the sun set over looking the sea. Fully equipped kitchen if you want to cook for yourself or I think you can pay for a meals package. There is a BBQ coal fire or hot plate which you can enjoy. There is an outdoor wood fired bath using alkaline mineral water from the water basin, and no that smell isn't your partner, it's the Sulphur in the water. You will especially enjoy that after a day of hiking. One of my favourite features was the bed, after travelling most of Japan sleeping on hard Japanese beds and tatami mats the big fluffy mattress at Hana Mana was delightful. The best night sleep we had all of Japan. Yakushima was definitely a highlight of our 3 week trip and we will definitely return to Hana Mana maybe next time in the summer.
Use Yes Yakushima to book Hana Mana and they will reserve your tickets for the Toppy Jet foil ferry over to the island. As an English speaker it was very helpful having Steve from Yes Yakushima here on the island reserving our transfers, accommodation and hike. You can see the different hikes on Yes Yakushima. The island is magnificent and you will enjoy where ever you go. We were lucky enough to have Steve himself as our tour guide however there are also other English speaking tour guides from Yes Yakushima. Very informative and educational experience thoroughly enjoyed. We highly recommend both Hana Mana and Yes Yakushima.

Simply the best place to stay on Yakushima!
Its not a hotel, its a beautiful house built from the finest wood, located in a tropical garden with a breathtaking view at the sea AND the mountains nearby. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful, and they have the best coffee at hand that I got in Japan - because they provide all the tools you need to brew it your way :)
The rooms are cosy, warm and luxurious at once, the facilities perfect, the location is quiet and still within few kilometres of interesting sites, hiking trails and the legendary outdoor onsen.
It ´s not a cheap stay, but the perfect retreat on this beautiful island.

Great base for exploring Yakushima
We stayed here three nights in May. We had a rental car, so for us the location was a good base for our hiking various trips around the island. Hana Mana is a house where the idea is that you rent a room and share kitchen and living room with other guests.
The house is new, the kitchen is tasteful, and the garden and terrace are fabulous. A great place to relax with a bottle of wine in the evening.
We made our own food (there is a good supermarket 5km away). We were the only guests at the time, so we had the kitchen to ourselves.
The owners are a big part of why our stay was so enjoyable. Very warm and welcoming and they helped us with tips regarding our hiking, - even insisting that we needed to get up at 4 am to get an early start for our hike to Miyanoura-dake :-D
The only negative think we can think of is that the bed was a bit too soft for our liking, but that's probably a matter of taste.
Recommended.

四月にイギリスから一時帰国した際に、屋久島を訪れお世話になりました。
トレッキングをする事を決めていたので、
お弁当が作れるよう自炊ができる場所、
それから日本での旅行は温泉付き、
というのが外せない条件で探していた所、
Hana Mana さんを見つけ、予約させていただきました。
到着日は飛行機が昼過ぎには屋久島に着くので、
荷物を置いたら近場で観光を、と思っていたのです が、
Hana Mana さんに着くなり、その計画は吹っ飛びました。
オーナーご夫妻が丁寧に選ばれたのだろうな、
と感じられる家具や食器やキッチン道具、そして南国の庭から自家温泉、
何から何までがパラダイス。
ここでゆっくり過ごさない手はない、
と全ての計画を返上して、デッキに座って、時が流れるのを楽しみました。
オーナーの下山田さんもとても親切で、
私たちが過ごしやすいようにと、気を配っていただいたお陰で、
本当にゆったりとした、素晴らしい時間を持つ事ができました。
パッと思い立って決めた屋久島の旅だったのですが、
それはそれは素晴らしい時間で、また訪れたいと思っています。
その際には、是非Hana Manaにまた宿泊したいと思っています。
