It’s nice to come back to a place where you can have a rest after an eventful day in the city Hotel «Ryokan Yamatoya» is located in Saga. This hotel is located in 15 km from the city center..Spend an evening in a nice atmosphere of the bar. If you travel by car, you can park in a parking zone.

Friendly experience!
The staff are very friendly and the lady who looked after us throughout was exceptional in both service and hospitality.
We had a very large downstairs room in the ryokan and this came with a private onsen at the back of the room.
The building itself also has separate male/female public onsens with one small bath outside.
The food was outstanding. We had blowfish and various different seafood. The breakfast was excellent and coffee can be enjoyed at the end of your stay.
This is located about one hour away from Fukuoka and recommend to anybody looking to enjoy a typical ryokan experience in Kyushu.

Friendly and warm staff with a nice private family tub onsen
Although the Ryokan staff had knocked off for the night, the owner, his wife (I assume) and an older lady whom I assume is the help, helped us with the registration and luggage. The owner can speak a little basic English, enough for us to communicate and inform us that the Onsen is closed at 11pm. We rushed through the registration and moved our luggage to the room. The older lady offered to help but my luggage was heavy so I carried it up to the 3rd floor myself.
The traditional Japanese room is okay sized for 3 of us, probably a bit squeezy for 4. There is an attached private toilet at the entrance to the room. The sink, however, is not close to the toilet, but at the balcony. The room is a little old but comfortable. While we used the onsen, the staff laid the beds for us. They used 2 mattresses for each of us, so it was comfortable. However, the air-con kept making ticking noises as the louvers on the blower moved. I tried to stop the louvers from moving but to no avail. As the room and the surrounding was very quiet, the ticking sound was magnified.
I used the public Onsen. The temperature was perfect, not too hot, not too cold. I stayed in there pass 11pm and no one came to bother me. The Onsen is normal, not fancy. I was there during a weekday, so I was the only person in the Onsen. There is an outdoor pool and an indoor one.
My wife and daughter used the family tub onsen, they enjoyed it for the privacy. My daughter, who is a teenager and very self-conscious, especially enjoyed herself as the water temperature was perfect.
Breakfast was a typical Japanese style, with rice, small dishes and the salmon was nice.
