Convenient and Nice Hotel

Location
The hotel is not only close to the Shingu (新宮駅) and bus station, but also close to Shingu Castle Ruins (新宮城跡), and even Kumano Hayatama Taisha (熊野速玉大社) and Kamikura Shrine (神倉神社) are within walking distance.
Room
The room is big enough for two and large enough for luggage. Although the style is a little bit outdated, it’s clean and comfortable.
Food and Restaurants
Although the hotel has a buffet-style breakfast restaurant, it doesn’t have lunch or dinner. Fortunately, each floor has a microwave so you can heat frozen food bought from a convenience store or supermarket. Shingu is a small city, and most restaurants either don’t open for dinner or close very early, so buying food from a supermarket might be the easiest option. There is a supermarket behind the hotel, by the way. We ended up having supermarket food for dinner for two nights.
Conclusion
Staying at Hotel New Palace is a nice option for exploring the beautiful and peaceful Shingu city.

A big cockroach was crawling on the bed when I lifted the comforter. Luckily, my husband was with me and killed the pest. I informed the front desk, but besides some insincere apologies, nothing was done. I had to ask the receptionist to come to the room to remove the pest and change the bed linens. I was glad it was just a one-night stay. I will never return, even if it were a free stay—no way.

The hotel is ideal to use as a base for Kumano Kodo trail as it is has regular buses to all the tourist areas.
The hotel is quite basic but this is a small town.
I would encourage all to try the local restaurants which look like they may or may not be open but be brave and you will eat some amazing food.
The Tourist Info Centre is excellent and very helpful - with english speaking offering.

Rooms are bigger compared to typical ones in Japan. Love the onset.
