A Family Owned Gem in Shiojiri on the Nakesendo near the Train Station

This family run inn on the Nakesendo is a very special experience. We came in dripping wet from hiking with our group of 11 and 2 guides. They took all our clothes and dried them for us. They set out our boots and coats near the fire and a heater for them to dry. When not doing this, they were busy making us a delicious dinner.
The rooms were small but well equipped. The bathrooms are down the hall from the rooms. A special feature were the Kiso umbrella pine tubs for bathing (up to two people). While soaking in the tub in a private room, you enjoyed a lovely view of an outside garden. They also have a small gift store in the lobby with items from the village.
The town itself is small but rich in shops and restaurants. We had an amazing experience at the local coffee shop run by a husband and wife who had a historic coffee syphon for making their coffee. Their coffees were exceptional.
While we were there the local chamber of commerce was hosting a lantern festival and serving heated mulled wine to sip as you strolled throught the town.
Very authentic experience with gracious and caring people.

Warm and Welcoming

The Iseya is a welcoming and authentic experience. Conveniently located right on the Nakasendo Trail. We hiked in and out. The food is delicious, very clean and spacious, a beautiful courtyard garden. Such gracious hosts, thank you for your hospitality.

Great location, comfortable stay.

Great location, comfortable room, stand out shower and bath, good dinner and breakfast. Right in the middle of the Main Street of Narai. Definitely recommend staying at Iseya. Very comfortable stay, good location for stopping on our Nakasendo walk.

An inn built in the Edo period

Narai-juku is a post town from the Edo period. The streets are like a time warp. Among them, Iseya is an inn that has preserved the buildings from the Edo period. The food is also delicately prepared, and you can feel the hospitality. The bathroom was perfect, except for the fact that it was a domestic bath.
