Great Value and Warm Hospitality – A Convenient Stay at Hotel Sun
I stayed at Hotel Sun during a short trip through Gunma, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much value it offered for such a reasonable price.
First of all, the room rate was very affordable, especially considering everything that was included. If you’re traveling on a budget but don’t want to sacrifice comfort, this is a great option.
The location is also a big plus. The hotel is very close to the expressway (IC), which made it super convenient to get to by car. There’s also free parking available, so I didn’t have to worry about finding a place or paying extra.
One of the best parts of the stay was the Japanese-style breakfast. It was fresh, delicious, and clearly made with care. Starting the day with miso soup, rice, grilled fish, and pickled vegetables was a real treat—and a perfect introduction to local flavors.
Another thing that made a difference: the staff. One of the employees spoke English and was incredibly helpful and kind. Whether it was helping me find a good restaurant nearby or explaining how to use the bath facilities, they went out of their way to make me feel welcome.
Overall, Hotel Sun offers a simple but excellent experience—comfortable, convenient, and genuinely warm hospitality. I’d happily stay here again on my next visit to the area.

I’ve stayed at Hotel Sun many times over the years. In the beginning, I was slightly concerned about the aging interiors and the inconsistent service, but recently I’ve seen remarkable improvements. Most notably, they’ve partnered with a Michelin-starred chef to create an innovative dinner experience that combines locally sourced Western cuisine with spicy Hunan flavors.
I was fortunate to have a preview tasting before the grand opening. The dishes were not just spicy — they had depth and originality, something I haven’t experienced even after traveling the world. The head chef, formerly an executive sous-chef at a top Okinawan resort, is full of creative energy. His sous-chef, a cheerful foreigner trained at a top culinary school in Hunan, excels in grilling beef and lamb to perfection.
They’re starting soft operations at the end of July and full-scale service in September. If you’re looking for bold, exciting flavors, I highly recommend visiting.

The environment is really bad, it's impossible to live at all. I don't know how I dare to spend 580 after reading the room for one night. I just didn't live in the room and wasted 580. The room doesn't have a room card, so it's very unsafe to enter the password! The sheets were also stained as if they hadn't been changed, and there was a stench when the door was opened
