Just Lovely
This was my second stay with Hermine, while she looked after us so well last year and she didn't let us down this year! We were a group of 10 People and everybody was made most welcome. All the rooms were very clean and nicely presented. After a good breakfast it easy to go out and do all the sightseeing as the Lodge and Hout Bay is idealy situated between Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula. Hermine was very helpful with any tips and restaurant bookings. With her lounge, terrace and help from the Honesty Bar it is also a lovely setting to relax in the evening! I am already looking forward to my next visit as it feels like home from home:)

Very Impressed
We came for special birthday trip (50th). The whole experience prior to arrival via email, being collected at the airport, to the VIP treatment we received from the owners and staff helped us decide to extend our stay here. I cannot express how delightful this immaculately clean accommodation is presented with a beautiful pool and gardens to enhance the holiday experience, great energy and spirit oozes from this typically African style villa with breathtaking views from the room and patio. Hout Bay as a location is just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist areas to make Bay View a little gem to treasure and enjoy. Totally recommend this place and the efforts made by Hermina,Thomas, Sharon, Celina and Martha to make our stay special.

Very Helpful owner
The entry system is a bit difficult if you don't have a local phone as one is required to get the gate open if no one is in the office. Rooms are clean and adequate with no tv reception and DVD player did not work.
The owner however could not have been more helpful on everything.
Our view was not of the bay but we were only there to sleep.
Breakfast was lovely.

Never Again
I stayed here last week while in Hout Bay for work. It was booked by my company so I didn't get much say. Other colleagues of mine were at Hout Bay Manor and WOW, was I jealous.
We arrived late (about 10pm) and I was grateful that my room was ready and check in was quick. I had an outside room with a sliding door. Outside was almost like a construction site with rubble and there were rather tacky looking plastic flower pots all over.
There was a SINGLE duvet on a QUEEN sized bed, no stop sheet only a sheet on the mattress along with just 2 pillows. I searched the room for the rest of the linen with no luck.
I had an inter leading door to, what i presume, is another room. I could hear other guests using the bathroom and toilet and moving around the whole time.
There was no air-conditioner and the ceiling fan was incredibly noisy.
The room smelt of damp. The shower was horrible like a trickle in numerous directions. The bath was the smallest bath I had ever seen I couldn't even stretch my legs out when sitting (may I add I am about 5'4). The bath also had these horrible stains in it.
I didn't bring any soap or shower gel as I only had a massive bottle at home. There was nothing there for me to use. I used my face wash instead.
There was no TV to watch on the TV. Meaning no channels. Just 2 older 'girlie' DVD's with a DVD player and a note to say "enjoy".
Breakfast was equally disappointing with very little selection. Fruit salad was banana and pineapple. That's it. Cooked breakfast was eggs, bacon , tomato and mushrooms. THAT'S IT. Served on a small side plate. The "amazing views" were mainly of the informal settlement across the valley and a sliver of ocean.
I was highly disappointed and would never stay here again.

Beautiful location, friendly and welcoming.
This is a very comfortable guest house, with amazing views from every room. Each room either had a balcony or a terrace over looking the gardens, pool and mountains. Decoration throughout included traditional African pictures and artefacts. Hermina and staff were so helpful, booking restaurants, taxis and even giving us a lift to a restaurant if no taxi was available. There is a board with lots of information on places to visit, so this is a great venue to stay for a holiday in the beautiful Hout Bay. We chose to stay here instead of in Cape Town and I am so glad we did. It was like staying in a friend's country home and so much better than staying in an impersonal hotel. Will definitely stay there again, if or rather hopefully when I'm back in Cape Town. The only tiny criticism, was that the scrambled eggs and bacon each morning for breakfast, was very highly seasoned and a bit more variety would be good. There was also fresh fruit, cheeses, meats and pastries.
