Awesome Penguinden
What a wonderful happy Family weekend we had at Penguinden from arrival to leaving it was wonderful. Our host Stefano was attentive and nothing was too much trouble for him.
We had the whole house dedicated to us such comfortable accommodation for7people.
We braaied ,had a jacuzzi sat on the balcony's which lead off all rooms for magnificent views the kitchens were well stocked with equipment which made cooking in open plan kitchens fun and everyone joined in.
I cannot leave this review without mentioning the complete comfort and luxury of the beds all come with new toppers crisp white sheets all make for a wonderful sleep resulting in no devices used at bedtime!!
The staff that tended to the cleaning etc were very pleasant, quiet and did a great job

TERRIBLE
What a nightmare.
We arrived exhausted and saw a male walking out of a side-door at the bottom of the property. My heart sunk.
He then could not find the keys so after us standing on the bottom apartment veranda in the freezing wind (with a 2-year-old toddler) he found the keys and opened up.
The minute we walked in the atmosphere of the place just did not sit right.
The lounge suite was not the same as in the photos; in fact, it had been moved outside to the side veranda.
The place had a smell to it; definitely cigarette smoke and burn marks were visible on some of the furniture.
The carpet was filthy underneath and within 5 minutes of my grandson running around, his feet were filthy.
The so called camping cot came with no instructions on how to assemble, thank you Google; the mattress was flimsy and when we asked about bedding for the cot John said due to hygiene reasons most parents bring their own bedding.......uhm...but the beds were made up, is that also not a clash with "hygiene" as he put it.
NVM that hygiene was the last thing on anyone mind after looking at assorted items:
Black mould on the curtains in the main bedroom; right where my grandsons cot was placed.
Mould in the bathroom, shower etc.
Towels had stains on them
There was another smell that caught in the back of my throat, and I had a sore throat form two days after this and my daughter in law developed tonsilitis and had to go to a doctor and get antibiotics and our grandson developed a cough
Dirty sheets with funny black 'things' on them.
The so called second bedroom was hidden away in the "back" with two single beds, was damp and the only light came from a window which overlooked the so-called back braai area (I won’t go there with what it looked like); and there was a delightful clump of hair and other items hanging from the curtain.
There was a massive crack running vertically and horizontally in the main bedroom and every time the wind blew the whole window creaked, not only in the main bedroom but in the lounge area as well.
We went to look at the hot tub, which was highlighted so beautifully online, it was dirty, water was murky and quite frankly the whole area surrounding it on the deck was not very pleasant.
There were cheap plastic tumblers in the cupboard, the sheets that I took out of the cupboard in an effort to make up the cot, were damp.
Straight away I contacted the booking platform and had a conversation with them, and they cancelled the booking and thankfully refunded me a few days later. They also showed to me that the host would be sanctioned as they too were sent proof of the condition of the place.
And there we were, without accommodation in peak season in Simons Town; NOT A GOOD SITUATION TO BE IN.
Thankfully, we had someone else come to the rescue (no aid from the host/co-host of Penguidine).
I have been in the hospitality sector for 21 years and know a 4-star establishment when I see it, this is not even a 1 star.
My son and daughter in law are both in the hospitality industry having worked at 5-star game lodges in South Africa and Africa.
I am not sure if this place has been actually fixed as per items mentioned.
And this is not a hatchet piece at all, we experienced it, it cost us a lot of money to find alternative accommodation for two nights in this area.
All of these photos and problems were discussed with the host via the app and the co-host as well

Views for days!
Wow! What a treat it was to stay here! We booked for only one night as we were doing a day trip and didn’t want to travel back far to where we were going after a day this side.
The views from the house are breathtaking!!
The facilities were perfect .. we didn’t need much as we only stayed one night.
We stayed with our 2 year old, which was no hassle. A high chair and cot were provided - thank you so much!
Really enjoyed a stay here, sadly it was only for one day but I know we will definitely come back in the near future.

Wonderful rest
This was the third time we have been to Penguinden and, once again, we loved it. My husband and I stayed in the apartment for two nights after which we moved upstairs to the Royal suite while our son and his family moved into the apartment. John and the staff went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed to make it a super week - including re-arranging the second bedroom for our grandchildren (and putting up a camp cot for our 10 month old grandson), getting a high chair for the dining room and other bits and pieces. It was great to have the space and always wonderful to take in the breathtaking views. Black-out curtains the apartment bedroom would be helpful for the early morning hot summer sun but, that said, we will be going back again!

Penguinden
In many reviews i read that Penguinden is home away from home. Well, to have my own home like that is the dream of my life!
Outstanding views, large balconies where i could enjoy my meals and even my cigarettes (they correctly recommended me to keep the balcony door closed when smoking, as they had complaints in the past of smoke smelling inside, even if smoking inside is forbidden), an infinite and fully equipped kitchen where it’s a pleasure cooking. A real lot of space, even in the lounge! Very comfortable bed, we had 2 en suite bathrooms just for us and still have to understand why they were 2!
Moreover it is very close from some of main attractions such as Boulder’s beach or Cape Point and it has some beautiful beaches all around.
I would also thank John to be a perfect host, always ready and happy to help! Great advises about beaches and restaurants!
The jacuzzi was too cool, i had a very romantic time in there with my boyfriend!
The area is totally safe, no problem parking in the premises!
Driving up the road for 2 consecutive nights we spotted a couple of porcupines! So for us Simons town meant penguins, baboons and porcupines! Amazing, Penguinden will definitely be the best memory of my trip to cape town!
