Grand Old Lady needs new care giver

Such a beautiful landmark hotel, with provenance and history , sadly neglected and poorly managed. It is close to the beautiful waterfall, although a noisy and busy corner, and even though the rooms are comfortable, there is little to no service, and certainly lacks attention. Could do with some sincere and personalized service to her guests. Nothing in the way of facilities, and no on site dinner opportunity. So much potential and so dissapointing.

Old world charm

I like staying here. It feels like you are stepping back into history with wide stairs winding up, lots of space and only a double story victorian feel.
Things to point out:
- Wifi should be organised additionally. There was a price tag to it, but they never charged me for it - ask at reception.
- Rooms are small, but then again I really dont need more.
- Great curtains that lock out all light - had a great nights' sleep.
- Breakfast is not included, but there is a cafe on site that serves GOOD coffee and a range of la carte breakfasts.
- secure parking at the back of the hotel.
- the rooms are surprisingly soundproof.

Not bad at all

I had occasion to stay here for business. Newly refurbished room is great but tiny. Towels are OK. But the hand towels are frayed. They did not have breakfast but provided money for a meal. The neighbours' extractor fan kept waking me. And some young guys were fooling around in the passage but I did go to bed early. Couldn't fault the hotel without being nit picky.

Overnight stay in Howick

I had an unexpected overnight work trip in Howick. I was glad to find a decent hotel close by at the last minute. I was working very late and was mainly concerned about finding a clean, comfortable and safe place to sleep that night. Someone is stationed at reception throughout the night, I didn't like that I had to stop my car and get out in order to press the bell for the gate to be opened, as it was very late, there were no lights and it was very quiet. Once I was parked though, a security guard waited at the door until I came into reception. The power had gone out that night, but they had bright lamps available so I was able to get ready for bed comfortably. They use white linen, and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean. I stayed in the executive room. The standard room is a little cheaper, but there is not much extra space in the room if you get a little claustrophobic.
