Topnotch backpackers where peace and privacy reign

The McGregor Backpackers is hands-down the best run backpackers we've ever encountered. The accommodation is sparkling clean and comfortable, and well arranged, with a choice of dormitories or separate rooms, with or without their own bathrooms. The communal facilities, including ablutions, are excellent and the gardens are lovely. It is a peaceful place, designed to create a sense of privacy, even when one is sharing the spaces with several other people.

Absolutely wonderful!

The joy and passion the owners, Dorothy and Geoff have is so evident.
PUT ASIDE any mental images you have of the typical 'backpacker' accommodation. This is NOT THAT!
It is clean, comfortable, well provisioned and managed.
We had the privilege of using this as our family/friends base for a wedding at Lord's Wines and could not have asked for, or found a place more perfect in any way.
There aren't enough superlative adjectives available to describe the owners and the oasis for the body & soul they have created here. The attention to details covered, was way beyond the norm!
Having done some hiking in the area previously, we have a point of reference to compare to, so are not singing praises without foundation. Next time we hike Boesman'skloof, we know exactly where we will be staying.

Wow, Margi, your review has completely blown us away. We live here 24/7 so to see our spot through a guests eyes helps us know we are on the right track. It was lovely having your family and friends stay with us and incorporate us in this joyous event.

Excellent spot to stay

Brilliant spot for a large group of friends/family. The hosts are super accommodating and friendly, the rooms are adequately furnished and very clean. The private kitchen, lounge and bar section allows for ease of entertainment and the central garden/braai area ensures everyone is well connected.
I celebrated my 40th with a group of friends and everyone had a great time.
I would highly recommend The Backpackers.

Peace & Quite! Bliss

Ahhhh! Peace & quite. Wonderful garden. Room very spacious & private , kitchen area clean and user friendly. Stayed 2 nights. All in chat table is great. My version of their centre table in courtyard :) The info we received from Dorothy, this little town has lots to offer its residents including a cinema once a week. Sadly we weren't there on weekend to experience the market. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

MAGNIFICENT ACCOMMODATION

Backpackers is certainly the wrong name for this wonderful accommodation. From the minute you arrive Dorothy and Geoff welcome you to their house and are super friendly and nothing is to much trouble. They make you feel as if you are part of their family and not as guests.
The room I had was extremely comfortable, spacious and shower. The kitchen is a gem to work in with all the amenities that you need.
I stayed here for two weeks and really felt home away from home.
Highly recommended if you are looking for a gem to stay in McGregor.
