I recommend it to anyone looking for a place with character rather than an impersonal chain hotel.
August 1, 2026: I spent 4 nights at the Hôtel La Chronique and I can recommend it without hesitation.
It is a small 4-star hotel with barely 16 rooms spread over three levels, ideal for those who wish to get away from large standardized hotel chains. Here, the atmosphere is warmer, more personal, and you quickly feel at home.
The strong point is without a doubt the staff. The entire team is very kind, always smiling, available, and attentive. The communication via Booking before arrival was very responsive, and my room was ready as early as 11 a.m., which allowed me to recover after a night flight. It is these little touches that make the difference.
I stayed in a classic room with a small balcony, on the alley/courtyard side, on the second floor. The room is not huge, but perfectly sufficient, very clean, well-equipped (Wi-Fi, air conditioning, etc.), and above all, it has excellent bedding.
The decor also deserves to be highlighted. The hotel has a very polished, cozy style, blending a modern touch with French-inspired elegance. The colors, materials, and lighting create a particularly pleasant atmosphere. The café-bistro located on the ground floor is also very aesthetic and offers various breakfasts throughout the day. I would have simply appreciated seeing one or two additional Khmer dishes on the menu, even though you can easily find excellent places in the neighborhood.
The hotel is located in the lively Russian Market (Toul Tom Poung) neighborhood, a vibrant area that allows you to discover a more authentic Phnom Penh than the administrative center. Quick tip: tuk-tuk or taxi drivers do not always know the name of the hotel. Indicate that it is near Toul Tom Poung Market, they will then find it easily.
In the end, it is difficult to find any real negative points. For me, La Chronique offers excellent value for money, a remarkable welcome, charming decor in an old French style, and a very high level of comfort.
I will return with great pleasure and I recommend it to anyone looking for a place with character rather than an impersonal chain hotel.

Best address in Phnom Penh
Beautiful hotel in Phnom Penh, the building architecture is superb and the small cafe downstairs is delicious.
The room is perfectly equipped (air conditioning, excellent shower products, mini bar, hair dryer, safe, etc).
Everything is very clean and the staff super nice and efficient.
Breakfast is at the cafe downstairs and their food is amazing.
I highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Phnom Penh. There is tuk tuk bcp in the surroundings so everything is easily accessible.
The room is perfectly equipped (air conditioning, excellent shower products, mini bar, hair dryer, safe, etc).

The hotel was well maintained, it was picturesque and very clean! The staff were great, and the restaurant was really good too. Highly recommend, and would stay here again.

Love this hotel. Stayed two nights - one in a smaller room and another in a bigger one. The smaller one (room 101) has an issue with ants in the bathroom but room 102 was perfect. The receptionist Wahtar is the best! Cafe downstairs was great too and not badly priced.

The room had the atmosphere of a small hotel in Paris, and it was very clean and comfortable. The staff were really kind and provided professional service. The room was small, but it was enough for resting. For a longer stay, since you spend more time in the room, a slightly larger room would be more comfortable, but for just one night, it was just right.
The breakfast at the bistro, including the eggs benedict and french toast, was all delicious. I actually wanted to try lunch as well, but the place was very crowded with many non-staying guests busy taking photos, so I couldn’t use it during the day. It was a little disappointing that dinner was only served until 6:30pm.
The only thing that bothered me during my stay was that there was sometimes a slight sewage-like smell from the bathroom and sink area, but it wasn’t a big issue for me.
