Jungle Calm & River Soul
Sambor Village Hotel in Kampong Thom is a quietly charming eco-style retreat that punches well above its three-star rating in ambience and character. Set along the Stung Seng River with lush tropical gardens, private bungalows, a saltwater pool, and a gorgeous elevated Khmer restaurant, it's an unexpectedly lovely stopover on the Phnom Penh–Siem Reap corridor. This might not be a posh boutique hotel, but for what it is and where it is, it largely delivers.
LOCATION:Strategically placed almost exactly halfway between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, Sambor Village sits just 600 metres off National Highway 6, making it either a practical overnight stop or a deliberate two-night base for exploring the underrated Sambor Prei Kuk temple complex, which predates Angkor. The setting along the riverbank is genuinely tranquil and feels far removed from the highway chaos just a short ride away. That said, Kampong Thom town itself offers little in the way of dining or nightlife outside the hotel, so if you're expecting to wander out for evening options, temper those expectations. You're essentially within the property once the sun goes down.
DINE + DRINK:The elevated restaurant perched in a traditional Khmer wooden house is one of the most atmospheric dining rooms in provincial Cambodia — a genuine highlight. The food leans toward Cambodian classics and solid international options. One gripe around the breakfast offering - while decent, tilts heavily Western and can feel out of step with the surrounding Cambodian context. The bar keeps things simple. Beers, Wine, and Cocktails exist, but don't come expecting a sophisticated drinks list.
ROOM: We stayed in the bigger bungalow in the corner , so this review is based on that; SIZE: Spacious enough for 2 adults and simple baggage; VIEW: sweet view of the plantation from the lovely Sitout attached to the villa; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part of putting us to sleep; BATHROOM:Good sized bathroom with a Stand-in shower; TOILETRIES: Good quality toiletries
FACILITIES: No Gym on site, but they do have a lovely swimming pool with balinese vibes.
SERVICE: Friendly staff that cared for all our needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and well taken care of. Special Shout-out to CHANTY & SMEI from the management, and TOLA at the bar for indulging us through the stay!
HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free Wi-Fi that works well all over the property, and the speed is good! No TV in the room

A beautiful pool on your right. Upstairs a superb dining room with good dishes and a superb breakfast. Small house in the shank. Very flowery and very clean. Welcome back.

Really very nice, very professional staff, decent breakfast for the price; it feels like being in a Cambodian village... the rooms have all the comfort.

Good place to stay in Kampong Thom
A secluded property by the river, Sambor Village is arranged in a series of bungalows in a garden. They are simply furnished but spacious and comfortable. Initially, the hot water in the shower (there was none in the basin) was idiosyncratic, but the problem was resolved on our second night. Breakfast was good, and dinner was excellent. The hotel staff were lovely, arranging tours and transport as needed.

They are nature cottages near the river in Kompong Thom
The houses are very nice and nothing is missing, the setting is beautiful because there is nature
It seemed to me all very organized and precise, we were found the crib for our baby girl, all very efficient and available to help us with our requests for dinner
There are many mosquitoes it is true but they offer very good sprays, there is also a bit of noise in the evening but nothing to prevent sleep
Maybe I'd make breakfast a little richer
