The room was clean; bathroom well presented. The breakfast was basic but adequate. Word to the wise though, don't wait until 8:00 am to go down to eat as it does get crowded, you may have to wait for a table or eggs may run out.

Pleasant rooms. Just pleasant.
This is the second Best Western I've stayed at this summer in BC's interior, and frankly both have failed to live up to the BW standard I have experienced elsewhere. To begin, let me warn you that this two storey hotel does not have an elevator, and if you have any sort of mobility issues, you will find the staircase to be problematic. I asked the clerk for a ground-floor unit, but they were not able to accommodate my request.
Some other concerns that I would share are that the carpets in the common areas are filthy. The complimentary breakfast was good, but got bottlenecked by there being only one two-slice toaster. They had upgraded the bathroom in the room we had, but curiously had not bothered to update the plumbing fixtures in the shower. It was not a very good shower, and it dripped long after it was shut off. There was also no toilet paper holder, which seemed very odd. How hard is it to install one of those?
In the bedroom, there was no chair that you could sit it and watch TV, but nevermind the TV was so small that you would probably need to be sitting right up next to it anyway.
TV Channel selection was good, as was the wi-fi service. Check-in process went well.
I can appreciate that the local economy in Castlegar may be suffering, but it's not like this hotel has a lot of competition either. I think that the BW chain should look at helping bring this, and other BW hotels, up to a standard that travellers can expect.

I’m sorry we were not able to accommodate your request for a ground-floor room. We were fully booked during the last couple of days, which limited our ability to make room changes. Our property does not have an elevator, and due to the original structure of the building, adding one for second-floor access is unfortunately quite limited. Whenever availability allows, we do our best to accommodate our guests’ room location preferences.
I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed the complimentary breakfast, although I understand the frustration with the toaster bottleneck. We are currently looking at upgrading our toaster, and I hope this will make the breakfast area more efficient for our guests.
I also appreciate you bringing the shower, plumbing fixtures, toilet paper holder, and other room concerns to our attention. We would be more than happy to look into these maintenance items. Unfortunately, we were not able to identify your room number from the review. Love these older motels that have been renovated. Nice, new, clean rooms with large rooms that older style motels used to have. I love being able to park directly in front of my room. Plenty of parking spaces. Breakfast was plentiful and staff were very pleasant.
We were going to stay in Nelson but decided to drive down the road a bit. Glad we did. Great price. Great place.

Terrible Hotel
This is the worst hotel I have stayed in in several years. The location is great, easy to find. At check-in we find out that there is no elevator in the building. The front desk gentleman did offer to carry our bags up for us if we could not do it. We were able to take our time and take care of it.
The room itself was way too small. You could not walk past each other - you had to step out of the way to let the other pass. The beds and pillows were horrible. There was some plastic over both so it made a lot of noise when you moved.
The bathroom was small as well. The lighting in it was horrible. If anyone had to put on any make-up, they would not be able to see. When taking a shower in the morning, I had the water temperature fixed and then put it to go into the shower head. I stepped in and the water was freezing cold. It was horrible.
The worst part of the hotel room was the AC unit. It did not work. I had to keep hitting a button to get the AC unit to run. Closer to the time we had to get up, it just stopped working. I opened the balcony door. I hardly had any sleep and was not a happy camper.
Breakfast - OMG - the worst ever. The coffee was bad, the juice in the machine tasted weird, the sausages had an after taste.
When I checked out I was asked if I had a good stay and I told the lady absolutely not. I told her about the AC unit and she asked me if I called downstairs because someone was on call 24-7. I said it was in the middle of the night and I was not going to have someone come up and fix the unit then.
I will NEVER stay at this hotel again and I would recommend against others staying here as well.
