1 night stay

Advertised as a historic hotel. Translated to mean it's an old hotel with old fittings. Secured wifi with fridge and microwave oven in the room. No coffee/tea in room. Coffee for $2.00 at the lobby. Lingering cigarette smell in room. Noisy traffic outside hotel. Ample free parking. C$100 deposit requured on check in.
No hair dryer. Have to obtain from reception. Always have someone smoking outside the entrance.

Friendly staff

I had an amazing experience staying here. I was aware of the renovations but I was not bothered by it. The hotel is situated on a busy street which was fine. The staff was amazing, friendly and accommodating. We called last minute as our boat came in early. And needed somewhere to stay. We stayed there 2 nights and returned the following week for 4 days. My only concern is the mattresses need to be updated. But other than that we enjoyed our stay and will return again next year.

The dump

To start the hotel is a dump , no air condition, with a 8” fan in the room, they installed air conditions on the hallway, and keeping it al 62 degree F , I guess they were hopping to cool the rooms, but it did not work.
The bedding seems not clean, and apparently there are weird people living in this hotel, we felt very unsafe .
I will not recommend this hotel.

Hotel tries, but it misses

Needed a place to stay on our travels and this was the only hotel available we could book close to Deer Lake. The 2 rooms we booked were recently "renovated," but that really only meant they had new vinyl flooring. The old bathroom tile was painted over in a fresh white, which was ok, but not actually renovated, so the "renos" really just amounted to painting over old finishes which meant the rooms smelled musty and old. There was also no air conditioning and we were there on the hottest night of the summer. And our room window looked out over the parking lot and street and it was noisy. The staff was really nice, though. One of our rooms had a microwave, but the other room didn't. All in all, it was good enough for a night's sleep, but I wouldn't go back there.
