The only problem we had was, we were given the wrong keys so we had to go back down to the front desk.

Not the stay I expected, but the staff went above and beyond
I stayed at Delta Hotels by Marriott Edmonton Centre during a short layover, thinking a downtown hotel would be a convenient and comfortable choice. Unfortunately, my stay turned out to be quite disappointing.
The first strange experience happened before I even reached my room. I got into the elevator, pressed the button for the 5th floor, and could feel it travel all the way up. It stopped, so I expected the doors to open—but they never did. A few moments later, someone entered the elevator, and that’s when I realized I was actually standing in the elevator at the ground floor the whole time. It was a very confusing and bizarre first impression.
Once I finally made it to my room on the 5th floor, I immediately noticed the bathroom floor was extremely sticky, as if someone had spilled a sugary drink and it hadn’t been cleaned properly. At first, I assumed it was just an oversight by housekeeping, but later I noticed the elevator waiting area on the 5th floor was also sticky.
The room itself was dated, with worn carpets and older furniture. My room overlooked a large gravel-covered rooftop podium, so there wasn’t much of a view.
I went back to the front desk and requested a room change. The staff were polite and quickly gave me a new room on the 6th floor. I grabbed all my belongings and moved upstairs. This room was cleaner, and thankfully the floor wasn’t sticky anymore.
However, opening the curtains gave me quite a shock.
The room had floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking what appeared to be a completely abandoned shopping mall. It looked frozen in time, with an old 1980s-style interior. Every storefront was closed, yet the escalators and elevators were still running. There wasn’t a single person anywhere in the mall, which made the whole scene feel incredibly eerie.
It was only then that I realized the hotel is built in a circular design around the mall, with all of the guest rooms facing inward toward the centre. Looking across the atrium, I could see all the rooms on the opposite side of the hotel. Every single room was dark except mine. Being the only room with the lights on overlooking a silent, empty mall gave me a very unsettling feeling. Personally, I found the inward-facing design quite claustrophobic.
So I went down to the front desk for a third time and asked if I could switch rooms again. Despite all my requests, the staff remained incredibly patient and understanding. They told me they completely understood that some guests can feel claustrophobic with this type of room layout. Gia, who assisted me, was especially kind and handled everything very professionally. She even upgraded me to a suite on the 5th floor, which I really appreciated.
To be honest, if they hadn’t been able to offer me another room, I probably would have checked out and found another hotel. The inward-facing room overlooking the deserted mall made me so uncomfortable that I don’t think I would have been able to relax or sleep that night. Gia’s professionalism and willingness to help completely changed the outcome of my stay, and I’m very grateful for how she handled the situation.
I also wasn’t prepared for what downtown Edmonton has become. There were many homeless people in the surrounding area, and I personally didn’t feel comfortable walking around, even during the day. At night, I definitely didn’t feel safe leaving the hotel. I understand this isn’t the hotel’s fault, but it’s something travellers should keep in mind when choosing this location.
While the hotel itself felt dated and my overall experience wasn’t what I had expected, I do want to recognize the front desk team—especially Gia—for their patience, professionalism, and excellent customer service. Between the unusual elevator experience, the cleanliness issue in my first room, the dated condition of the hotel, the unsettling view overlooking the deserted mall, and my experience in the surrounding area, this isn’t a hotel I would choose to stay at again. However, Gia’s outstanding service made an otherwise disappointing stay much more manageable.

We booked for a night before going to a concert and it was perfect for how many people were with us. Big rooms, spacious and had everything we needed.

This hotel is located in what feels like a disused mall. the pictures are very deceptive. The entrance is located in a cul-de-sac with two public parking lots on either side. When we arrived, EMTs were talking away a person right in front of the entrance and there was a lot of drug use and loitering around the hotel entrance and in the mall. We felt unsafe and there was no security to be seen, The public parking was being used as a toilet and the stench of urine was strong. We decided not to stay the night and checked ourselves out. I did not see us parking our car at night and having to walk through all that to get to the entrance. We asked for a refund but were declined.

Good location for walking downtown, room wasn’t great
Walking distance to lots of great restaurants and Rogers Place was the best part.
Booked a room with a jacuzzi suite and it was incredibly dirty, could not use it. The housekeeping staff tried really hard to fix the problem for us, but nothing worked. The housekeeping staff and manager were amazing, felt terrible about us having that room when it was supposed to be closed as it was a known issue.
Were offered another room if it could not be resolved. Front desk rep said it was fixed when we came back to the hotel after a few hours and wouldn’t move us to another room. Tried it again and same thing, disgusting mess coming from the jets.
Prices were high for rooms, but there was a concert and hockey game over the weekend.
Parking was in a parkade beside the hotel, so not ideal for transferring luggage, but it was fine. Best for smaller vehicles.
Not a great experience for what was supposed to be a relaxing weekend away.
