A welcoming hotel with lots of charm, a real taste of old St John's
The Jellybean is a great place to get a first taste of St John's and its charming, laidback atmosphere. As the name suggests it's one of the multi-coloured 'jellybean' houses of old St John's, and the whole house and all the rooms are full of quaint details and knick-knacks. Our room was snug and very comfy, with nice views over the (quiet) street. Breakfasts are generous (don't expect to get through them in a hurry) and the pretty breakfast room or the tables in the garden are nice places to meet up with other guests and get ideas on things to do. The centre of town is an easy walk away, and in the opposite direction it's not far to Quidi Vidi harbour or Signal Hill either. Thank you!

Lovely Stay at the Jellybean Inn
A beautiful heritage property, very centrally located. The rooms were so charming and beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. Everyone appreciated the en-suite baths in each room. The kitchen was so well equipped, and the coffee was excellent.
Our entire family stayed here for our daughter’s wedding. Our host Carole was so helpful with the extensive planning and organizing. Once we arrived she welcomed personally to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. A couple of small issues were dealt with very promptly. This Inn is ideal for large groups. We would highly recommend the Jellybean Inn.

a comfortable place to stay
This newly renovated century building was an excellent choice for my stay in St. John's.
The bed was comfortable and the room was well appointed. I had some trouble with the air conditioning and found it too hot in my room the first night. Upon contact with the staff I discovered that it was me who had not set the air conditioner correctly. They also promptly changed out the bedding for something lighter upon my request. It was very unseasonably hot in Newfoundland for that time of year.
The continental breakfast is served from 8am. And the staff even made the guests scrambled eggs and pancakes one morning, which is beyond the usual for a continental breakfast.
I like to stay at B&Bs when travelling solo because I get to meet other guests and learn what to see and do while I'm there.
I recommend this B&B and would definitely stay here again if I'm back in St. John's.

great stay at Jellybean
i stayed at the Jellybean with my 31 year old daughter and we both loved the place - the unique atmosphere, the fabulous breakfast cooked to taste, the amazing location and the great hospitality of Owner- highly recommend. Central to all great attractions in City.

So disappointing
So very disappointing.
The room had a blind that didn't cover the window so let early light in, a main light that flickered like a strobe and couldn't be used, there was no info about breakfast in the house or room and no one to ask. We went down at 8 to be told by the sole person trying to organise it that it was served at 830.
There were more guests than could actually fit around the table. There was little variety or amount to eat and after we'd tried to fill up on pastry someone asked if it was possible to have more - suddenly we were told eggs and toast could be available. Too late! We had to leave early the following morning for the airport so had nothing at all that day.
The dining room was cold in the morning as the windows were left wide open - was there a structural problem in the house creating a bad smell?
Though advertised, there were no tea/coffee facilities in the room, and not even a glass for water. And who ate the chocolate that was meant to be left for guests?
It was the worst (but not cheapest) experience we had touring Canadian cities and tourist attractions, all in similarly rated accommodation.

We are disappointed and surprised to hear this. We strive for a great experience, and so far, we have many happy guests, but you must give us a chance!
When I inspected the room, I noticed the blind cord was caught, and I fixed it in about 2 minutes. The light was flickering because the fan dimmer was on. The LED bulbs are not designed to dim, so on half mast, it flickers. Had you called or texted me or any staff member, we would have happily shown you how to turn off the dimmer to avoid the flicker.
Im not sure what you expect for a continental breakfast of a stay at $159 a night, but this year, we are baking fresh croissants most mornings or other pastries, as well as providing fresh oranges, a variety of cheeses, tea, and coffee. If you're still hungry, he's cooking your eggs, which you are saying he offered. We also provided overnight oat parfaits with vanilla yogurt and fruit sprinkled with cinnamon. Our competitors offer a muffin for continental breakfast. We take pride in our beautiful china presentation and dishes on stunning tables, all served by a caring attendant.
Most folks are happy with the 8:30 start, which was also in your information email. A card with the attendant's phone number was in your room. We will also change to have a written manual in each room. They are on my desk getting tweaked. We were updating the binders. Communication is everything! We apologize.
I'll also take your criticism of waiting for a seat. You're right; people get chatting and linger. It's solved once the weather gets nicer with outdoor seating. I will implement a system this week to avoid people waiting. There is a table for two in the adjacent room, which can also be used.
I'm unsure what you mean regarding not having chocolates and coffee. The coffee is always available in plain sight. A pot in the kitchen, a Keurig for guests to make single cups, and an impressive tea collection and china teapots. I do not believe we should advertise it in the rooms. It's on the third floor, and the main floor has a full kitchen with china mugs at your disposal. The cleaners are trained to leave cups in the rooms for water. They have been excellent thus far, and there have been no complaints until now.
I'm sorry if someone opened a window and forgot to close it. It doesn't mean there was a smell or structural problem; it just means that someone wanted the breeze. We like to look at the positive all the time. We have to survive our long winters. The Jellybean Heritage Inn is a happy place.
We want you to let us know if anything is amiss. It makes much more sense to address it directly rather than complain from home.
