Parts of the property was under renovation.
As a five-star hotel that host international travelers, I’d expect the hotel to be better maintained.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.

InterContinental Chingdao Family Trip

On the family trip to Qingdao from July 29th to 30th, a stay at the InterContinental Hotel was really good. From the moment of arrival at the hotel, the Korean employee, Kim Jong-mi, was comfortable and satisfied when checking and asked to contact us by message.
First the location is really great. Located near the Olympic Harbour, the central commercial district of Qingdao, the surroundings include restaurants, cafes, shopping malls, as well as walking to the beach promenade.
The rooms are spacious and the sea view is especially impressive. At sunset, the harbour and the harmonious landscape of the city looked out from the window as a hill, and at night the landscape was magnificent so there was no need to go to the 5.4 square. The view from the room was good.
The staff service was also very good The front and lounge, the housekeeping staff were all friendly and carefully cared for, so we could stay without any inconvenience even abroad. WINNIE WANG staff, especially in the lounge, always greeted with a bright smile and remained a truly grateful memory.
The breakfast buffet and pool facilities and the fitness center are also well managed, so it was good to get back in shape after the day.
For those who want to spend a free and decent time in Qingdao, I highly recommend InterContinental Qingdao. This is a hotel you will always want to visit again during your next trip to Qingdao.

Horrible front desk staff members and quite an unpleasant stay overall

We booked 3 rooms and we stayed there for 6 nights during Oct 2025. When I was checking out the front desk lady showed me a detailed invoice with several unexplained charges under the name of "special mooncake". I asked what those are and she told me just to ignore them. And she insisted on giving me an alternative invoice without all the details. I said hiding the details doesn't answer the question as to what the extra charges are. And she reluctantly asked a manager. The manager told me to ignore them as he didn't know what they are either. And they even tried to grab the invoice out of my hand and throw it in the garbage and they wanted to give me an invoice without the itemized details. It is unbelievable! Instead of explaining what they are, they simply asked me to ignore it and said something like they are part of the room charge. But if they are room charge, why are the itemized separately under a different name? (Later somebody from reservation called me and said it was part of the room charge, but how can I have any faith in these people now?). The issue I had with them is really their attitude which was very disrespectful and dismissive as if I were a fool. I guess they must be used to treating customers like that! I have booked 3 club member rooms for 6 nights for a significant cost and that was the kind of treatment I got! Furthermore, the rooms are not really well taken care of. The lobby and rooms all feel dark and somewhat unpleasant. Despite meeting some courteous staff members in the cafeteria, the overall experience at this hotel is quite unpleasant. I have stayed in 5 star hotels around the world over decades of my professional and personal life and this is one of the worst experience I had in terms of customer service attitude.

A few comments: 1. The property is elegant and well maintained. But it’s not new, for example, the carpet in the room is old, the bed mattress and the blanket is not new m. But I know they are doing some renovations right now. 2. The service overall is good. But there was one day, I put the house keeping request sign on the door, but did not get the house keeping service until night I came back. For a 5 stars hotel, this is unacceptable. 3. I booked a room with a jacuzzi on the balcony, which is the reason I choose this place. However, it was actually a bathtub without massage function, because the remote is missing. Overall, I had a good experience and enjoyed this hotel, including, super convenient location, unique view, and good breakfast buffet options.
