Widespread humidity issues at a luxury flagship
Our first room was completely unlivable, reeking of fresh paint fumes with an AC vent that was soaking wet from condensation. When we complained, the Duty Manager got involved and personally showed us a second room. While this second room was slightly better, it still suffers from a distinct, heavy dampness and a persistent musty smell. It is clear that this hotel has a systemic HVAC and humidity issue.
We refused to waste any more of our evening packing bags to change rooms for a third time, so we forced ourselves to stay put in a subpar, damp environment just to avoid further hassle. While the manager physically assisted us with the room swap, the overall service recovery completely lacked a genuine apology for the massive disruption to our stay. For a luxury brand of this caliber, guests should not have to settle for a damp, musty room. Amex FHR travelers should look elsewhere on the Bund until this hotel resolves its structural air-quality issues and retrains its desk staff on proper hospitality.

Terrible smell in bathroom
You pay a lot of money for this location and name, but our bathroom had a major issue. Whenever we opened the toilet lid, a strong sewer smell filled the room. Housekeeping came and cleaned it, but nothing helped, so it is probably a plumbing or infrastructure problem. Having to hold your breath in your own hotel room bathroom is pretty miserable, and knowing that, I would never come back.
On top of that, the gym is ridiculously tiny. It is basically the size of a normal guest room and looks like a basic local hotel gym. For weights, they only have a single cable machine and free weights, plus a few treadmills.
Great service is wonderful, but it cannot make up for bad plumbing and a tiny gym when you are paying luxury prices.
