Second Home

When we visit Medellín, for the fourth year on a row, we like to stay here. It has become our second home. The staff is exceptional.

Poor management

As many have said, good location, breakfast and staff other than reception/management. We had an issue on the morning we were due to depart in that a connection from the mains water supply to the bathroom (located under the sink) came away of its own accord whilst my wife was in the shower. This resulted in a vast quantity of water coming into the room resulting in the room and bathroom being under water. We had to scramble to try and get our luggage and clothing on the bed before it got very wet. We were leaving for the airport early that morning and needed to get ready. Hotel staff did clean the room within half an hour and fixed the plumbing but, we were left scrambling to get ready, pack and get some of the wet clothing in to plastic bags. On checking out, usual question of mini bar consumption and we said small bottle of water that morning and four small bottles on previous two days. We were told we would not charge for the bottle of water consumed that morning but would be for the previous days. Came to $14! On challenging the charge considering what we had been through that morning, manager said “these things happen”. Of course things happen but it is how you deal with it that shows whether you care or not! He clearly did not. Not once did he say sorry for what had happened.

We had a major leak in our room the entire stay. The staff did nothing to assist or accommodate with a room transfer. The room was out dated with many broken fixtures

Hotel was a typical South American hotel in that it was in desperate need of modern upgrades as well as general updates to paint, furniture, blinds that clearly show wear and tear. Staff was very helpful, if you do not speak Spanish you will struggle as majority of staff does not speak English. Wifi really struggled, especially when streaming from the TVs.
Rooms were also not clean, we found cockroaches in the drawers and multiple cracked/dirty/pealing paint and damaged fixtures that need attention especially in a suite.
The breakfast was extremely good and you can't beat the location.
