A special place with amazing staff

Selva Verde Lodge is a very, very special place. Our room was amazing – spacious, spotlessly clean and wonderfully comfortable, with air-conditioning, a brilliant coffee machine and the most sensational view overlooking the river. The food was fantastic, but one of the real highlights for me was the bird-feeding area. I could honestly have sat there for hours with a coffee, just watching the incredible variety of birds coming and going. Even better, very good coffee is available all day, free of charge! We did two tours during our stay: a night walk with Elkin (apologies if I’ve got the spelling wrong!) and a daytime hike with Carlos. Both were absolutely amazing. Our guides were so friendly, enthusiastic and incredibly knowledgeable, and made the experiences really special. My son, Elis, in particular, absolutely loved his time with them and I know he’ll never forget them. In fact, everyone at Selva Verde was so friendly and welcoming. We had a fantastic time there and just wished we’d booked a few more nights. There’s a great gift shop too and a sloth in the parking lot!

Amazing stay at Selva Verde Lodge

Rooms were really nice and clean. Location was amazing, loads of really cool signed trails to do right next to the houses, and loads of animals. Breakfast was always super tasty, and amazing to watch the birds from the breakfast tables. Tour was amazing, we had Carlos as a guide, and he was very knowledgeable and friendly and funny, and crazy good at spotting the animals. There was a really nice pool as well. The Italian restaurant was very nice as well, although the pizzas were a bit pricey. Overall amazing stay though!!

The obvious choice in this area

I saw more new birds here than anywhere I’ve ever been, in the garden overlooked by a balcony of the dining room. The resort has beautifully made covered walkways, convenient during the rainy season. The rooms are spacious, comfortable (with air conditioning), and quiet unless an unusually large truck is going by. The food provides ample variety in a buffet line, plus small individual desserts delivered by the waitstaff who clear your plates. There’s a pretty good gift shop, and you can drop laundry off at the front desk for same-day or overnight service. The nature preserve itself is accessed via a bridge over the river that flows through the grounds. You will need/want a guide, because there are bullet ants (which I saw) and venomous snakes.

Hotel for nature lovers

We stayed at the hotel for three nights. The actual property is fully integrated into nature. The tours, especially to the other side of the river, would be great.
However, we were initially supposed to be accommodated in a bungalow on the other side of the street. A disaster for a family with a child/teenager. There is nothing there except for the bungalows and a lot of rainforest. Nothing at all.
The room change was charged an extra $20.
The new room was spacious and clean. You could also see many animals from the veranda. The breakfast is sufficient, but nothing special.
Anyone who wants to see animals, especially birds and amphibians, is in good hands here.

One of the best!

We had an amazing stay here for 2 nights, we wish it was for longer, though we just missed the floods! The location was stunning, right in the forest next to the river, the sound of rain & birds helped us drift off to sleep. The rooms was comfy and spacious, the facilities are top notch, the staff were really friendly and helpful. The whole place was immaculate in terms of cleanliness. This place should be on your list as a destination or stop-over.
