Comfortable spot with great hosts

We stayed here for one night when our flight was delayed getting into Liberia. It's very close to the airport. It's a no frills/no service hotel but is clean and was perfectly comfortable for our one night. Dwight and his parents are wonderful hosts and took good care of us.

Hotel La Arena

Small no frills hotel but great customer service. Clean rooms. Dwight can speak great English and will even order your dinner for you to be delivered. We got Chinese food. If all you need is a clean room for the night then this is the place. Hotels.com says they have airport shuttle service but it will cost you $25! Beautiful cat on the property that will jump right in your lap and purr, purr, purr. Also a very friendly little dog whose name is Bruno.

Staying with a puppy

We had booked one night before our flight home but plans changed and we called Dwight to add two nights. Although access off the highway is tricky ( see other reviews) we loved it here. It is on the older side, it clean and comfortable. Dwight and parents are the best! Very helpful and accommodating. We had just adopted a rescue puppy and they were helpful as to advice as to vets, etc. Dwight and parents to us sum up the very best of Costa Rica...the people!

Great Hosts!

The hotel can be hard to find, and access off the highway is tricky, as you must enter from the southbound lanes of the divided highway. If coming from the north, just drive past it about 2 k, and there is a spot to turn around. This hotel is a very pleasant place to stay for a while, with very friendly hosts Dwight and his Dad, nice little pool and sun lounge area that Dwight works hard to keep clean, and coffee is always on! The rooms are clean, beds are good, and there is hot water and a small fridge! Wi-fi is good as well. There is also an outdoor kitchen area, where you can use a BBQ, microwave, etc. if you like. I had a bad experience getting stung by a scorpion that found it's way into our room, and was greatly helped by Dwight and his Dad. They are apparently common, not lethal(whew), and it was just bad luck. But I did have a scare, and tingly lips and tongue for a couple of days, along with localized swelling on my finger. The hotel is about 5 k south of town off the main highway, but if you have a car, it is quite handy to Liberia, and it is quiet for sleeping, especially if you get a room further to the back and away from the highway. I would definitely stay here again if back in Liberia!

The owner /manager will make sure you are taken care of.

The manager Dwight picked me up at the airport and made sure I had everything I needed. He offered me a shuttle in the morning as well. A small, clean, unique owner- operated hotel that's an affordable option if you're staying in Liberia. Thanks Dwight. See you next time.
