Where to be accomodated while in Mulanje

The stay at Nalipili Eco Resort was wonderful. The rooms are exquisite and the food there is appetising. The staff are friendly and ensure you have a comfortable and luxurious stay. There are at least 2 pools all of these along with very well stocked bars. there are, the swimming pool and then the pool table all to give you a relaxing moment while in Mulanje. Meetings, conferences, trainings, events and gatherings are hosted at various facilities depending on your needs. Nalipili Eco Resort is simply your option for accomodation in Mulanje.

The hotel reception couldn't give us the room we had booked, but gave us a room without a mountain view without saying anything. When I pointed this out they said that the building with such rooms is undergoing renovations and is not ready yet. Yet the hotel had that option bookable! In other words, what wasn't there was for sale!
When I demanded the price difference back they said that it wasn't possible because the hotel had to first receive payment from "Hotels.com" in order to be able to pay back the price difference.
Besides they said that we had to move to another room than the one we had been given! We didn't get a good explanation why that would be necessary even though they were the same!
The hand shower in the bathroom didn't work and they couldn't give us another room with a working hand shower because it was the only room with a hand shower in the big hotel!
At check-out, they were also calculating the price difference in $US and exchanging it to Kwacha and so on even though we had paid in Swedish Krona!

A BEAUTIFUL PLACE WITH VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE

This place is beautiful on the outside, with spectacular scenery of Nature, Tea and Mulanje Mountain. However on the inside this place needs serious change in Customer Service! I have food poisoning that I am getting treatment for, after staying here for only one night!. I have stayed in various hotels in Malawi but this is one I will not return to. The customer service is Really bad. I was kept waiting on reception for 20 minutes, whilst they were dealing with one group. The reception had 4 people yet they all focused on one group and assumed I was with them. When finally my turn came I was shown to my room. Although it was clean it had not been stayed in for sometime with 2 cobwebs stuck in ceilings and 1 on the chair leg. The worst, there was a worm in the toilet! I should have trusted my gut instinct and left but was too tired and in the middle of nowhere without taxis. They put milk, and coffee tray and a bottle of water but with no kettle and I had to ask for one! No Internet! When I asked the reason, I was informed this was due to thunder.Then came dinner time that I had to wait for almost an hour even though I was the only one eating. I ordered Chambo fish but I believe was not fresh, just fried again in oil again. Now am suffering from food poisoning and yet I have stayed in Malawi for 3 weeks without encountering this issue. Breakfast was very strange. The Restraunt and the whole Customer Service was paying more attention to the group and no one else. I sat outside and when it was my turn to order, I was informed I needed to move into the Restraunt as the outside was only for this delegated group and yet no one communicated this information to me It was if I was Second Best to the group of guests they had, which I believe was hosting a workshop there. Lastly there was derogatory language that I heard members of stuff talking about me, thinking am not hearing them, simply because I registered with a British Passport! They started talking shouting to one another with statements and I quote "Mwawaona Abambo?" Meaning "Have you seen a man?" Simply because I was wearing a trouser! Come on, this is 2026! One of the Restraunt Servers asked another, " Kodi ndi mnzungu?" Meaning "Am I White?" I believe this again waz due to my Hair Extensions The only members of hospitality I met, who worked and behaved different from others were Goodson and Sunganani and I Thanked them when I left. I meant to stay two nights, extending my stay but I couldn't take it anymore! I know if I was White I could have received "The Warm Heart of Africa " that Malawi is famous for but my goodness "Thank you for the music"! Am not coming back!!!

Day light robbery

Booked villas for the village living experience, upon arrival reservation was there but rooms unavailable so were bumped up to executive rooms and we had to pay difference even though front desk lady acknowledged it was their fault. Felt I was robbed, unfair. Door lock in first room did not work, had to change rooms, maintenance man says that this happens often with this room, left wondering why they rent it without fixing problem. Had to climb out window to exit room. Swimming pool dirty. No AC in rooms. Rooms are clean, staff polite but slow, meals take over an hour and not everyone in group will get meal at same time. Stayed another night at Happuwani Lodge next door for a night and that was much better, dont waste your money here, the lodge next door has better food, swimming pool is clean, service spot on and rooms are big, and rooms have AC. Spoke to management about room rate and situation, deaf ears, I got your money and run attitude. Nalipiri has lots of mosquitoes for some reason, Happuwani did not have any issues like that.

Please survive the low occupance levels due to Covid. You deserve it.

The place is 3 years old and in need of maintenance. Not maintenance effecting us a guests but in terms of paintwork, external facades etc.
Breakfast is OK.
Dinner takes avarage 60 minutes to prepare.
The bedroom and bedding was clean.
Staff very friendly and helpfull
