Serious damage to stored luggage and poor room condition and cleanliness
I stayed at The Hive Beach Hotel for 2 nights in Hulhumalé.
During my stay, my surfboard travel bag was stored overnight by the hotel. When I collected it at checkout, I discovered a large cut through multiple layers of protective foam. The damage was not present when I arrived, after inspecting the bag at Malé Airport and handling it carefully during transfer.
At checkout, I raised this with front desk staff. It was acknowledged that the damage may have occurred in the hotel’s storage area, which is very small and not well suited for storing large surfboard bags. Another guest also reported a very similar type of damage to her bag after storage at the hotel.
I also experienced issues with the room condition, including a window that did not fully close due to a broken handle and a room that appeared not to have been fully cleaned at check-in.
The surfboard bag is now unusable for its intended purpose and had to be replaced at a cost of AUD $559.
I attempted to resolve the matter directly with the hotel afterwards, but responsibility was declined.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend this hotel for travellers carrying valuable sports equipment or expecting consistent room standards.

Poor
Poor Service from receptionist. The hotel next door is much better. I had a single room which said it was a city view - there was a small window that looked out onto a wall - so there was no view. The breakfast was good

worst stay among the 10 days I spent in Maldives. I stay at hulemale to fit arriving late at night on first day, and last day for morning flight. the hotel looks ok, but certainly overpriced. standard room size, air conditioning stopped by itself, no hot water and no water all of a sudden during shower. toilet kept giving a bad smell, and the most scary is a big rat jumped out while we entered the restaurant for breakfast. breakfast was bad too, with only few hot dishes. I'm not comparing it with luxury hotel, but just my first night at H78 which costs only 60% of what I paid for at The Hive
Another strange thing is the hotel gave me a receipt of us$178, but I'm actually paying trip.com hkd 1673, equivalent to usd200+

Decent hotel
Basic hotel, friendly reception staff. The airport transfers are not too flexible but they tried their best to accommodate me.
Good location in hulumale but quite far from the city and frm the airport to be honest. Around 20 mins to airport, but city is further away!
