Comfort in one of Asia’s most vibrant and exotic locations.

An excellent place to stay. Located in a quiet but central area of Georgetown this lodge offers superb lodging. I very much like the decor and layout of this place. It’s almost as if you’re staying in a museum. There is a great sense of spaciousness however, everything is uncluttered and well designed. Staff are friendly and I was made to feel at home. I absolutely loved staying at this place.

Not pleasantly surprised

My wife and I stayed 2 or 3 nights. Tripadvisor has listed it as a top place in that area, we really enjoy the food choices close by, some of the best (she grew up in Penang). The room was OK, plenty of space. We stayed in the yellow room above the lobby. The room showed its age, the bathroom had moldy mats, easy fix. Reception was simple, no English or Mandarin for that matter. Breakfast was a slice of toast, the host, a young man, had no idea regarding service. Good location, would not stay there again. Heavy windows helped reduce street noise as we were close to a very busy road (Carnarvon Street). Not expensive, the atmosphere could use some work.

Nice hotel with character

As described on the website, the building is old and also the interior of the building is old-fashioned. But the rooms have everything you need, and in fact I found the bed very comfortable and the airco very well (and quietly) functioning, so I had a really nice rest in this hotel. It's also very well situated, close to the Armenian street and other lively streets of the town. Only the breakfast is very basic (coffee and toast), and the staff is not always very communicative. But on the other hand, I received a tea and cake when I returned to my room in the late afternoon to fresh up, and also when leaving the hotel, I received a little package with a drink and cake, so that was very attentive.

Highly recommend this gem!

We saw the good reviews but were still pleasantly surprised by how wonderful this lodge is! We stayed in the Frangipani room with two single beds. It was small but had everything we needed and was very clean. The AC worked very well. The street is not touristy and overall was quiet but had several places to eat across the street for breakfast/lunch. We booked directly on their website which I highly recommend for the best value, and they even included a small breakfast with local toast and jam, and tea. Every afternoon we came back to rest and they gave us tea and a sweet treat. Such a special place.

Worth recommending!

BETEL NUT LODGE is conveniently located in a busy area with quietness. It takes only 3-5 minutes to walk to Shantou Night Market!
I stayed in the *Areca* room type. Although the window of the room faces the street, it is soundproofed, the basic facilities in the room are complete, and the wifi signal is good. Booking from the official website is a little cheaper than booking through an agency hotel. The daily snacks are ordinary, but they show the landlord's thoughts.
I have to give a special praise. The whole hotel is very clean and the staff are kind.
The price-performance ratio is very high
