Heritage stay in a grand old hotel
We chose this hotel for its gorgeous colonial building and rooms and the Deluxe Suite did not disappoint. it was created from the same family the Raffles and you can see those influences at the E&O.
The room was huge and overlooked the pool with a balcony. Breakfasts (we tried Palm Court and also the buffet) were fantastic.
Another highlight was the evening canapés and drinks! So nice to have this pre-dinner.
Unfortunately my husband got very sicj with food poisoning in Penang (not at the hotel) and the staff was terrific in calling a doctor to make a house call. Housekeeping also helped out with extra cleaning, and front desk made sure to ring and check up on him and if he needed anything.

We Love Our Stay Here
We booked 2 rooms ( Deluxe Suite / Seaview Suite ) at the Heritage Wing. We booked 2 rooms. We just love everything about this hotel. The colonial style old charming hotel. The rooms are big and have great view over the Andaman Sea. A breathtaking views from the room. We stayed 3 nights. First day, we had breakfast at Sarkies restaurant which located at the Victory Annex site. It was too crowded to our liking, and the staffs seemed to busy to greet us. Empty food were not replenished soon. So the next 2 days, we chose to take our breakfast at the Palm Court, which was quieter and suitable for us. The staffs here at Palm Court were nicer & friendlier than in Sarkies. We could choose from pastries buffet, also could choose from menu card with western & Asian food. The soft drinks in rooms are complimentary and replenished every day. We also got red wine complimentary in our rooms. But we didn’t drink them. But it was a nice gesture from hotel. We appreciated it. Laundry was also done smooth and fast. I actually regretted one thing ; Penang is famous of the Nyonya Kuih. Unfortunately the hotel didn’t serve the kuih at the breakfast time. Malaysian kuih are very unique & flavourful, I think that it shall be nice to offer such kuihs ( Malaysian heritage ) to hotel guests. Despite that, we do love our stay our stays here. There is complimentary coffee and tea in the afternoon and canapés in the evening. What we love the most is the breathtaking view from our rooms. Eventhough the hotel is old, it preserves the charm. It gave us somehow a good 5 stars feeling staying here. When we come back to Penang again, we shall surely book the Deluxe Sea View Suite again.

Room condition well below expectations
Stayed at the E&O Hotel in Penang and the room fell well short of what you’d expect for the price — mould around the skylight, a stained mattress pad, cracked/water-stained ceiling, and worn floors and rugs throughout. Ended up checking out the same day and relocating.
GM Alison Fraser did reach out personally afterwards with a genuine apology and confirmed no charge was passed on, which I appreciated — but it doesn’t change that a room in this condition shouldn’t have been offered in the first place.

Historic hotels
The biggest attraction of the rooms is the elegant, long corridor decorated with paintings and the wonderful ocean view where the sound of waves resonates comfortably. The balcony overlooks the ocean, the mainland on the other side, and the pool, giving you a resort feel.
The living room is laid-back with a large sofa and desk, and the complimentary minibar and welcome wine service are also great points. The bed was spacious and I could sleep comfortably.
The bathroom is a double sink and easy to use, complete with a large tub and separate shower room. With walk-in closets and dressers, it was a lovely room to enjoy an elegant stay.

Beyond expectations
We just stayed here for 4 nights in the Heritage wing. We had booked a regular room with a balcony but we were amazed and delighted to be given an upgrade to the Pinang suite!
I can’t even put into words how beautiful this suite was. So spacious and clean and everything you can imagine for a beautiful hotel. The complimentary afternoon canapés and drinks are the best I’ve ever had anywhere.
Am already planning our next trip and will this time book the suite. Just AMAZING!!!!
