Amazing environment
This was an amazing experience to stay at Howard’s place for tree nights! Our best stay in Borneo for sure. You don’t come here for luxury. We came for the amazing environment and live in the jungle. So beautiful place. And the owner Howard welcomed us so well and make us feel like home immediately! You can’t miss this place if you visit top of Borneo !!

Extraordinary
This place is a-must during your trip to Borneo!!! The property and the restaurant on the beach is ran by Howard from UK and his family. There are regular transfers between the lodge and beach, where the tip top restaurant is. Howard is truly giving his heart to this place and helping the local community by employing people from village, running many events etc. We really loved the long house we stayed, slept like babies while listening to the night jungle. Basically the whole property is built in a little jungle, where you have showers and compost toilets a few steps away in a beautiful surrounding. There is nothing more cool than to observe the nature in shower without ceiling. Also the facility is pretty simple, wooden, but really clean. In addition we really liked the restaurant on the beach, the food was delicious. Howard is really taking care of his guests and make sure everyone is enjoying the stay to maximum! Don’t hesitate and just visit this little tropical paradise away from mass tourism :).

Fantastic host and wonderful stay
We were here as a family with 3 young children for 3 nights and had such a wonderful stay. Howard was an incredible host and very accommodating to the needs of us and our children. On his property we saw a huge variety of bird wildlife including different species of kingfishers. We also did a jungle survival course with Howard which was a fantastic experience for the kids and ourselves and we learnt many interesting tips and facts about how to survive in the jungle as well as many important life skills. Howard has a passion for helping the local community and I thoroughly recommend a visit to this beautiful place with incredible hidden beaches with barely anyone on them. It is rare to find somewhere so untouched.

Lonely planet paints an unrealistic picture
You'd believe Tampat Do Aman to be some kind of magical, unmissable place with how much it is bigged up by the writer of the guide book, but you might be in for a disappointing stay if you take the words as gospel. There's not much going on at the tip of Borneo, so when this place is made out to be the epicentre of interest in the area i suppose it's not far from the truth really, but don't count on being entertained for any length of time by the museum, nature trail, the grounds themselves, or other in-house 'attractions' because they are sorely neglected and in a state of disrepair. The whole complex in fact feels tired, run down and you get a sense that perhaps a once buzzing and vibrant place has been all but abandoned and left to crumble.
Long time dead and rotten plants in pots line the longhouse corridor, inside the room we had moldy bed linen and a mosquito net full of holes.. Nights were itchy and uncomfortable. We stopped drinking the filtered water from the communal dispenser upon realising nobody was changing or topping it up over the course of the days we stayed. Not to sound pessimistic but who knows how long it had been there before we arrived, as guest turnover was practically non existent.
I will stick up for the owner here where some others have put him down. We found him to be helpful, friendly, a great source of information, and the shuttle service - far from ensuring you were a captive audience - was a handy way to get to (by far) the nicest beach in the area. I don't know what kind of entitled mind would think Tampat do Aman have any obligation whatsoever to be at beck and call to ferry guests around the Tip of Borneo whenever and however they please? Where else would a guesthouse or hotel do that? It's perfectly reasonable that they should take you to their own restaurant on the beach. The only restaurant, on the nicest beach! There's really not much else to explore, see or do up here, so this is really as good as it's going to get. Hire an overpriced scooter from Tommy's up the road and go see for yourselves!
Food at the restaurant was good, not 'terrific' by any stretch of the imagination, but not bad by any either. It's standard fayre, and a few days is enough to grow tired of the menu, but i don't really know how people could stay in this area for too much longer than that without becoming a bit bored to be honest.
It didn't cost much to stay at Tampat do Aman, but it wouldn't cost much to inject a little bit of TLC into the place to make a stay there feel more worthwhile. We were bored, tired and uninspired by the time we left. If you are on limited time in Sabah, unless you simply must see the beach (admittedly very beautiful) , i'd perhaps recommend spending your time and money elsewhere.

A night in the jungle
Me and my boyfriend stayed one night in the longhouse. You get what you pay for, the room wasn’t a place you’d like to spend a whole day in but I slept well and they provide a mosquito net. What makes this place special is how it’s built in the jungle. From the porch there’s a beautiful view over a paddy field, that’s was extraordinary in the moonlight during night. The accomodation is 2 km from the beach and there’s a shuttle service. I would recommend getting a scooter though. Howard, the owner was super friendly. A good place to stay if you’re on a budget.
