Amethyst is my all-time favorite hostel. It was my first time hostel hoping, and I wasn't sure if I would make friends. Enter Saiful. He invited me to dinner where I got to know other travelers, who I ended up spending the rest of my time in KL with, visiting everything from the Batu Caves to the Putrajaya Pink Mosque. I originally booked for three nights but ended up extending to a week because I couldn't leave so soon after meeting such incredible people! Saiful took us to the best spots for nightlife and helped us find delicious local food. If I could give Amethyst 10 stars, I would. I highly recommend if you're looking to have a social experience in KL! Everything's always fun when you're with the right people. (:

Reception Guards

I checked in and the hostel was nice and the staff were helpful. However, they did not give you a lift pass which you needed to get to the property on the 12th floor (or the guards would have to sign you in). On the second trip in the lift I had to ask the guard to let me up again and they told me in an aggressive tone that this was my second trip and you cannot go upstairs anymore. So I got up and checked out after being there a total of one hour. I had an issue with the guards the previous night trying to reach the owner as I had missed check in (which the owner knew as I had contacted before) and they would not let me connect to the WiFi, wouldn’t let me use his phone to call the property and didn’t give me any help in trying to contact the owners. If it wasn’t for the reception guards or they had a lift pass I would stay in the hostel. But until that changes you’ll be in for an extremely difficult and aggressive experience with them
