Great Stay with Friendly Owner and Staff.

Have nice and safe stay here. Walking distance to pier and wet market at jetty. Friendly and clean environment on road but not at dump cute bin. Stray dog at night. Street kids selling seafoods some alive and some dead. Bargain hard. Can own cook or assign restaurant to cook for you. Depend on size of catches and type of cooking style you want. Plenty of restaurants and 3 big supermarkets around. Private 4wd transport behind the Inn ( near petrol station) to Tawau or airport. Coffee shop nearby. Can cook as electric pot. Fridge to keep foods. Roof top bbq if want use clean up after use. Nice resting area at 4th floor. Cold air con, water heater and water dispenser. Owner also certify PADI trainer/master.

Clean but the stairs and the noise.....

Went to explore new macro dive sites at Pulau Bum Bum, so I stayed in Semporna town itself for the 1st time instead of running off to one of the island resorts. While the newer parts of town where the dive operators are, are quite nice with plenty of food options and hotels, the older part of town, where this hotel is, isn't quite the ideal place for tourists. The town is old and quiet, and you'll find it tough getting dinner past 7pm.
The roads are quite dirty and if you're one to be spooked by dark areas and quiet streets, stay in. For breakfast, ignore the popular coffee shop next door - terrible service and tourist prices. Walk round the back towards the Petron petrol station and eat both breakfast and lunch at Semporna Kopitiam.
The room itself was functional and lights, aircon and heater worked well. Bed was fine but the location of the shower was odd. There are separate areas to clean your gear and dry them at the rooftop. The common area was also decent for meals or drinks after dives. The steps to lug up your dive gear every day was painful. The hotel is just 100m from the local mosque and their morning prayers seem longer than normal, so bring your ear plugs or get super drunk. Wifi was super good but the TV was not working.
The staff are not the most attentive but maybe that's a local thing. The dive sites at Bum Bum are one of the dirtiest I've seen but made up by some interesting macro critters. All in a dirtier but closer alternative to Lembeh.
