For whom the bells toll... every 15 minutes!
We arranged transportation to/from airport with hotel (20 euros each way) and did not regret it. Jonathan, the driver, was very punctual (even for the 4:30 am pick up he was early!). The hotel location is great, right in the thick of Valletta, across from the St John co-cathedral (gorgeous baroque church). The problem with that is the bells toll every 15 min 24/7!!! No break, so bring earplugs. Check in was done by a very humorless young lady who clearly should not be in the hospitality industry. Our room had a view to the plaza, which meant lots of noise - lots of restaurants on the street, live music, bells. The room was two floors and could fit 4 people easily. Very large rooms with interesting quirky decoration. Very simple but interesting. Poor lighting upstairs, which made it challenging to read in bed at night. Bathroom was small, toiletries were of low quality. The hot water is very hot so be careful. The hotel and room were clean. Breakfast was simple and guests must choose between continental breakfast and English breakfast. They serve you, and also offer coffee, few pieces of whole fruit and freshly squeezed OJ. The lady who served breakfast was nice and quiet. Dorianne, who works in the front desk during the day, was also very nice. Free wifi in the room but it was spotty at times. TV reception was poor, but most channels were Italian, so not much interest in that anyway. All in all, I'd stay again.

Cold coffee
What can be worse than cold coffee??? We stopped at that place during our long walk, had to wait for 15 min for the waiter and then another 15 min for our order which was 2 beers, coke and coffee. And people at the next table said that their pizza looked better in the photo than it tasted.

Luciano's revisited
Not really a boutique hotel and no mosquito net as in the picture, but everything else about Luciano's was great and well justified a second visit. (Not to be confused with Luciano Al Porto overlooking the harbour). This traditional building has an unusual layout, with access to my room up in the lift and then down some stairs (with a second staircase leading directly to the street).
The cathedral clock striking the quarter-hours was a welcome sound (more than could be said for some of the music drifting in from a bar down the hill). But a comfortable stay otherwise. Being there during Lent Carnival season was a bonus, with the parades highly watchable both from my room and the restaurant balcony.
All the staff were very pleasant and the breakfast was enough to last until dinner time.

Perfect location all near hotel, super friendly and helpful staff for everything. A hug to Rahul, Sidu and Milena. Fantastic breakfast as everything at the restaurant we had lunch and dinner and it was all top.
I recommend to everyone this hotel we felt at home..I was born in England but live in Italy I really enjoyed the English breakfast.
