Beautiful riad short on staff

This riad is well-built and well-located, clean and adequately appointed, but it falls short in service. Our room (Blonde) was lovely and had its own small deck for fresh air and a window in the bathroom (that faces the outside of the medina and can be a bit noisy). When our driver wanted directions to the riad, we showed him the directions we had been sent but he had some questions so we phoned the owner who wasn’t helpful, repeating “I sent you directions” rather than answering his questions. Later, she refused permission for a highly recommended henna artist to come to the riad to decorate our granddaughter’s hands, citing security and safety concerns. Amina, the on-site manager, is a lovely woman who is kind and tries hard but is the only staff person. As a result, she is run off her feet and anything we asked came either late or not at all. Unlike all the other riads we visited, there was no one to help us carry our bags up or down the two flights of narrow stairs to our room.

Stylish dar/house in the medina

A charming boutique-style dar (house) in the medina, stylishly restored. Amina was welcoming and helpful, providing a delicious breakfast.
Our open-plan bedroom was spacious and comfortable (the toilet incorporated into the bedroom/bathroom) but lacked a window with view or somewhere to unpack clothes (a small rail is provided). It's worth mentioning the beautiful polished floors are hazardous when walking on the floor rugs - extremely slippery!.

Felt like part of the family

We stayed for 5 nights in Essaouira
And treated like part of the family . This is a small riad with 5 rooms and each one has its own charm. Very clean and the Manager is an absolute gem . For the life of me I don’t remember her name . But she was so attentive , Cooks up a storm and is a master at baking making the most wonderful cakes and pancakes . We had dinner and she even turned the fireplace on for us . You really couldn’t ask for anything more .

the perfume was overpowering

The dar is charming and clean, the location was very good, and the house manager Amina made a very good breakfast. She doesn't speak english at all, so communicating with her to stop using her scent candles proved to be not possible, which was a problem for me as I am very allergic to whatever scent that was. Our bathroom did not look like the picture, but it was a nice bathroom. The bed was good, and the perfumed candle smell did not go into the room.

A cozy, hospitable B+B in the medina

Hotel Dar Les Sirènes is a cozy B+B in the Medina of Essaouira. The rooms are basic and comfortable, and come with a bath or a shower. They are clean and functional and supplied with adequate linens. Breakfast is fruit, pastries, orange juice, bread, scrambled eggs and coffee or tea. At the price we paid (about 800 dihrams/night) it was a good deal. The best aspect of our visit was our the welcome from our hostess, Amina, who seems to do everything (front desk, cooking, cleaning). Amina was very kind and sweet, and immediately responded to any of our questions or wishes. It shows how just one staff person's hospitality can make a visit enjoyable and worth returning to the hotel.
