excellent rooftop terrace views

Excellent location and wonderful rooftop terrace view. Be ready to climb the stairs. it is quite an exercise:) Rich Moroccan breakfast. Coffee or tea, juice, local bread and pastry, jam , butter, honey and yoghurt, sometimes boiled or fried eggs. Friendly and helpful staff.

Disappointing

Rave comments for this place except that we stayed in the Josephine room. 4 floors of difficult stairs and a flight of stairs also in the bedroom. The main problem, the bathroom. Less than 170 cm under the ceiling, mold and broken equipment, holes in the tiles, a splash of cement, everything is sloppy and ugly. A chore every morning for the shower, foutas that don't wipe anything and a feeling of claustrophobia... I would never dare to rent such a place. The room is OK except that... the wifi doesn't work there and the lamps don't allow reading.
I don't know the comfort conditions of the other rooms... but the Joséphine... a very bad experience
On the other hand, the staff are charming and attentive. A suitcase lift would make his work easier... these irregular stairs are borderline dangerous for carrying heavy (or not) suitcases
A little disgusted, especially since the owners are French and know the requirements of their fellow citizens... minimum comfort
Delighted to find a real bathroom suddenly.

Beautiful Riad, great service

We loved this place! We had an entire apartment to ourselves, and the rooftop views are awesome. Amine was very helpful, he met us at the bus station and walked us to the riad, which would have been quite hard to find otherwise. Well located within the Medina, quiet and clean. Great place for the money! Would come back.
Be aware that many places in Morocco don’t take credit cards due to the high fees, so be prepared to pay cash.

Authentic Moroccan experience

The Riad was lovely (it's the former home of a Jewish merchant) but unfortunately our room was on the fourth floor up several flights of narrow stairs. The manager was very helpful in assisting with our luggage, but it was still quite a climb for those not used to stairs. The bathroom was quite small and the ceiling of the shower room was about 5 1/2 feet tall, so it's pretty challenging for someone tall. However, the view of the sea was beautiful, and we very much enjoyed breakfast on the balcony the next morning. The Riad is very conveniently located next to the main store and there were plenty of restaurants to choose from.

Lovely Riad!

My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights at Riad de la Mer in Essaouria, located just perfect in the hotspot of the Medina, close to the shops and just a few minutes walk to the beach. Our room on the 4th floor with our private roof terrace was very cozy, light-flooded and lovely to sleep in! As there is a mosque tower nearby and the praying pretty loud, we woke up every morning at 5 o'clock.
Diane, who is managing the booking and also our pick up from Marrakech did answer and help very quickly - we were just wondering about the explanation why there would be spots and marks on the bedclothes and towels: She said in advance that it's because of the poor marrocan water quality but curiously we haven't found spots or anything comparable in the other Riads we stayed at in Essaouira and Marrakech .. The other thing we were disappointed about was the missing information about the low-ceilinged bathroom (height: 1,65m), in which my boyfriend had to sit for showering.
The breakfast was delicious, fresh orange juice, pastry, pancakes, bread, best of marrocan coffee and jam - traditional marrocan breakfast served on the roof terrace.
There was no wifi connection on the 4th floor but a good one in the entrance hall.
Altogether I'd definitely recommend this Riad in Essaouira. Our room was beautiful but its not in a good position for elder and tall people (because of the bathroom), better choose a room on the lower located rooms.
