Excellent accommodation in Fez.
Unlike the Riad in Chefchaouen, this Riad was a breath of fresh air. It is a spacious establishment and the rooms are of excellent size. There are no windows for any sort of view. In addition to the bed, there is a large sofa to relax on or sit. The Bathroom is of good size with plenty of albeit lukewarm, shower. The wifi works well. There is a small swimming pool but it was too cold to have a go. The breakfast is mediocre as it is served to you rather than a buffet and whatever it is take it or leave it.

Old school charm
Charming riad style hotel inside the medina. Friendly staff with a nice pool area near the entrance and an excellent roof top terrace. Our room was stylishly decorated with a large couch, fridge and 4 poster bed. The bedroom was also heavy decorated but needed a little refurbishment. Amenities were basic and there was a lack of towels. The shower needed fixing as it wasn’t functioning properly and was not fixed despite being reported. Bottled water was provided on the first day only. Breakfast was decent with a selection of goods served to our table.
Overall, it’s a very nice place built in Moroccan style but a point off for the bathroom issues.

Ornate riad, nice but didn't seem like 4 star.
The staff make this hotel special. They provide a warm welcome and big breakfast every day. A shoutout to Mohamed who upon me asking was nice enough to help me get a reservation and walk me to and from the confusing alleyways of Fez to and from the restaurant at night making sure this solo woman traveler was safe. My room was off the main floor next to the pool, which I did not love, but it was huge for 1 person. Negatives: Needs a lot more light, the bed was very uncomfortable, the restaurant could be loud at night (earplugs came in handy) and the plumbing did not work well. The location was close to the gate of the medina for easy arrival and departure.

Fabulous hotel at first glance
The hotel's first impression is great.
It's a beautiful moroccan palais! We were greeted with tea and biscuits, the room was beautiful. Fabulous first impression.
Then. You look at the details and the quality fades.
Furnishings are worn, one chair in our room.had a broken leg-it's lucky we didn't sit on it.
The toilet feels like it is not screwed down.
The bed is hard. Hard as in it feels like a mattress topper has been placed on a slab of concrete. So hard we added the spare blankets to the bed in an effort to make it softer but my husband still slept on the couch because it was more comfortable.
There are no accessible power points near the bed, so devices had to be charged at the other end of the room.
The sink had no hot water or a plug so that made washing hands, faces and t-shirts difficult.
There is a laundry service, but I'm honestly not sure that my trousers were actually washed. They certainly weren't ironed. That's ok, so long as the price reflects that.
Breakfast is fine, but allow enough time for the various courses to be delivered.
The hammam was amazing.
Noise is an issue. Bith nights if sounded as thoigh someone was movong large pieces of wooden furniture after 11pm. The child who lives(?) in the hotel is also noisy until afyer 11am.
Note also that they don't service the rooms unless you ask, but they also don't tell you this. This means there are no tea bag or toilet paper top ups. (There were no coffee sachets in the room so that is obviously not a morning drink option). I don't care about having the bed made, but running out of toilet paper is an issue as no spares are left in the room.

A good modern interpretation of a Riad.
Just a '5', or a very good '4'. Our room was number 8, on the first floor overlooking the atrium. We loved the traditional if somewhat haphazard decoration in the room, including the four-poster bed. The latter was very comfortable, but the wooden frame at floor level meant you had to move carefully in the dark or risk spraining an ankle. All of the washroom / toilet facilities worked fine, and the breakfast buffet was one of the better ones we experienced in Morocco during our trip.
