Love stay at Riad Dar Sido

I had a short yet very sweet stay at Riad Dar Sido. The location is great as I have relatives that live in this area of the new city. The staff here is outstanding especially Soufiane! He has such great positive energy that is very genuine and rare.

Nice place in Marrakech

Nice hotel, very spacious and clean room. Friendly and helpful staff. They made us have breakfast even at 6am (we had the plane). Unfortunately a bit far from the center.

Nothing was what it says on booking.com

15 rooms in total. No reception area just an outside desk with nobody there. Do not accept Marrakesh room, windows look onto covered guest seating area and kitchen, noise horrendous, no natural light, mouldy bathroom, floor was flooded on arrival, no toiletries apart from soap dispenser which didn’t work. Told no other room possible until further three days. All rooms are off a tiled noisy stairway again noise awful with people coming and going. No footpath in the area so not ideal for young families or disabled guests. I had read a review about the ground floor rooms so when we were taken to ‘the best suite’ I said I would like a room on another floor and was told there was no other options! Very disappointing holiday.

Disappointing after high expectations

Sorry to have to write this but I feel if someone is thinking of spending their hard earned money and booking this Riad they should be aware of our experience. Initially my wife and I booked for 4 nights with very high hopes based on the previous Trip Advisor reviews and limited reviews on other sites. The entrance of the hotel is unassuming but as we entered we were pleasantly surprised at the lovely authentic looking decor. Once we met the manager / owner (I'm not sure which) he was very friendly, offered us some mint tea and showed us to our Garden Room. Once we entered the room our opinion changed (should have taken pictures). The room felt dark, musty and claustrophobic. It was as if it had not been opened in a while and the bathroom was in a very poor state. We were then offered an alternative room named Erdouf (or something similar) which was not much better. The ceiling was clad in bamboo which instead of adding to the riad feel, kept shedding debris on the bed which was not pleasant. The satellite TV did not work, the fridge was extremely noisy and the bathroom was again very poor. The hand-shower on the toilet was missing, the sink hole unpleasant, the shower itself was unstable, leaked and was covered in limescale and rust. The manager said he would try to get us a different room once more in the morning which was good but our confidence was gone. We had a very restless night with dogs barking into the early hours and we spent most of it trying to book a different hotel as we could not bare another night. Breakfast in the morning was simple but very pleasant after which we informed the manager that we were very disappointed in the room and were leaving. He offered once more to show us another room but we had made our mind up. It would have been nice if we were offered some money back but the manager was not to fazed that we were leaving which I feel is poor customer service. Perhaps the suites in the Riad Dar Sido are better maintained however the fact that we were willing to take a loss in money rather than stay beyond one night in a Garden Room means that I cannot recommend this establishment despite the nice decor, location and generally pleasant service.

Breathtaking

The summit, the tandjia served for my lunch. What to say, this riad is perfection on every level. The best accommodation of my week stay. And the team, especially the cook, adorable!!!
A quiet corner of paradise at the gates of Marrakech.
