Hidden nature gem

Really nice jungle setting on a lagoon. Great and clean cabins, friendly staff, home made fresh food always available. Kayaks and SUP included and we really enjoyed spending a day kayaking on the lagoon. It is very quiet and feels so good to be without generator or other machine noise, no traffic. Complete different experience than staying in a hotel and for us it was so worth it. There is AC and WiFI and all you need but simply enjoy nature an connect in a different way is the biggest benefit you can experience here if you wish. Thank you all and especially "Xochitl" for sharing this special place open hearted with us. Truly a hidden gem and very affordable, anyone who loves nature will be delighted.

A Big Disappointment

First of all, El Chital appears in hotel searches in Bacalar, but it is in fact 1h 15min away from Bacalar, and the road there, especially at the end, is terrible! The service was good but the cabin was a big disappointment as it was very impractical: there was no desk, no TV, no chairs, no closets, no drawers - no place to store clothes and other items. Furthermore, there was no internet in the cabin and even in the "main building" it was very poor. The cabins are a bit far from the parking area and one really has to carry the luggage to the cabin, as the gravel paths don't allow the rolling of the suitcase wheels. There were also a lot of ants in the cabin. Swimming in the lake was unpleasant as the the bottom of the lake was muddy. The owners have tried to make the place nice but unfortunately they still have a lot of work to do.

Great comfort in a wonderful eco-setting

The cabins were great - comfortable with wonderful beds and large shower with plenty of hot water. Food top-rate - staff attentive especially Alejandro who seemed to do everything from reception, wait tables, cook and do dishes !!! The pool was lovely and very clean and the gorunds spotless and full of wildlfie. The beach was muddy and not suitable for swimming but free bikes and kayaks were avaialble for use.

A quiet place away from everything

Warning: although the place appears as Bacalar in most hotel sites, it's NOT located in Bacalar, but in the neighbor Guerrero Lagoon, which is more or less 1.30h away by car. It is OK to be there but you must know what you are buying - many guests arrived there thinking they were going to stay near the Bacalar Lagoon, just like us.
Apart from that it is a quiet place, well designed to allow for disconnecting. They have kayaks and bicycles available and a small, simple restaurant.
The service is the problematic part. The hotel fails in delivering basic services such as replacing toilet paper or having soap at the bathrooms (we had to buy it ourselves). Apart from the chef/manager (a young and dedicated guy, although a little inexperienced), we felt staff to be a lazy.
If they invested a little bit more in service and paid more attention to the details, they'd be a much better place.

Relaxing and chic !

We had the chance to stay there on Christmas Eve and the staff did an amazing work. Just for us and another family, they prepared an full setup with banquet, jazz music player. Amazing buffet selection ! @Staff if you read this message - thanks for this you made our Christmas really special !
The cabanas are pretty large made with style, very quiet and comfortable. The pool area was great (we were alone :) ) we hamac around to relax read or just enjoy the nature. We didn't go on the lagoon but it seems to be a nice experience.
It is located 1h15min from balacar, a distance but worthwhile !
