Cheap, ok for one night

This hotel was ok, but not great. The positives were safe parking spot in the inner yard (only 7 or 8 available, so come early, or you can park on the streets nearby, although not directly in front of the hotel). Also the location was convenient, close to the cathedral, paseo montejo, and other sights, and the price was good too.
However, we moved the next day to a chain hotel for very similar price per night, because the room was not great. It was really dark because the only 'window' faced the hall, and it was also noisy - you could hear every person walking by your room, and cleaners talking and banging the buckets from early morning, so we were not able to get good sleep. The pillows were catastrophically bad, to the point where I was considering walking to Walmart and buying new pillows. Somehow we managed to survive the night. Didn't enjoy the shower - the bathroom was in need of urgent maintenance, there was loads of mold or some kind of other black substance on the surfaces. The water splashed everywhere when you shower, it was super messy. And then the towels looked like they'd seen better times, definitely need replacing asap.
I wanted to support non-chain hotels, but couldn't take it anymore after a few 'boutique' hotels back-to-back for a few nights, and spent the most of the remaining trip in the chain hotels.

Decent enough hotel for central Merida

Came as tour. In Central Merida. Lots of space and windows onto hotel courtyard. Comfy beds. Good air con. Free water topped up. Decent bathroom although water was tepid. No coffee making facilities. Breakfast was very average done a la carte

Worst Hotel I have stayed in

The worst hotel I have stayed in after visiting 35 countries.
The most critical note is the cleanliness and the musty smell. As soon as we entered the room we noticed an infinite number of stains on the sheets, blanket and pillows. There was hair everywhere and a strong musty smell. After the first night we kindly asked to clean the room better but we found a worse situation than before, so we decided to change hotel.
The staff does not speak English. I don't understand how the hotel has such a high average. The room they assigned us is number 12.

Parking was easy and convenient. Nice quaint hotel conveniently situated to the squares. Internet was sketchy and tv did not connect to the internet so couldnt watch tv. I did mention it but no one attended to it. Overall the stay was comfortable.
