Excellent location! Very walkable to restaurants and attractions! Also easy access to taxis. Comfortable and clean room with great AC. Would definitely stay here again.

As a seasoned traveler who has visited destinations across five continents, I have encountered my share of challenging situations on the road. Never — not once — have I experienced anything remotely like what happened to me at Casa de los Frailes on May 13, 2026.
While in my room, I received a call from someone impersonating hotel staff instructing me not to leave. The call escalated to a person claiming to be a “commander,” alleging a weapon-laden vehicle was linked to me, and then to a hooded individual claiming membership in an organized crime group demanding I keep my camera on. This is the classic virtual kidnapping/extortion scam widely documented by Mexican federal authorities. I ended the call immediately and reported it to the front desk.
What makes this deeply alarming is that the caller simultaneously had my full name, my personal cell phone number, and knew I was an active guest on that exact date. My reservation was made exclusively through the hotel’s official website — no OTAs, no travel agents. There is only one place where all three pieces of data coexisted: the hotel’s own systems and its processors.
When I raised this, the hotel manager had the audacity to suggest the breach originated on my end. This is simply impossible. I did not share my own name, phone number, and real-time hotel occupancy with a criminal organization. The data combination used by the extortionist exists in only one place, and that place is the hotel’s guest management infrastructure — period.
I was forced to cut my stay short and relocate for my own peace of mind. When it came to compensation, the hotel reimbursed only the unused nights. The night of the incident itself — when the breach occurred and my sense of security was shattered — was never reimbursed. That is precisely the night that warranted acknowledgment most.
I submitted a detailed formal written complaint via email, outlining the incident, the data protection implications, and my specific requests for investigation and compensation. The hotel never responded. Not an acknowledgment, not a courtesy reply, not even an automated confirmation. Complete silence. For a property that had just exposed a guest to a criminal extortion attempt, that silence speaks volumes about how seriously management takes guest safety and accountability.
For a property marketing itself as a premium boutique experience, the failure to protect basic guest data — the refusal to own it when confronted — and the decision to simply ignore a formal complaint altogether is inexcusable. Book here with that clearly in mind.

Love the character and feel of this hotel. Location was convenient and everything you need is near by. We had a front room facing the street. The room was nice but it was a bit noisy with people outside and carts being pushed on the cobblestones. Staff was exceptional.

Nice people and good location but terrible coffee, no breakfast or food and expensive parking. Cramped rooms
