To unlock the door turn the key to the notch up position insert key push hard towards the left from the out side or the right from the inside very hard like you want to secure it like a bank vault. THEN TURN THE KEY. It will unlock very easy if you follow these steps. There was absolutely no gym. It’s a ten dollar cab ride to the beach. Very roomy but I prefer walking distance to the beach. It’s a better long term place instead of short term.

I would not reccomend booking here

I had a very strange experience at the Kaban Hostel. The owner/reception will make you feel so uncomfortable. I didn't feel I was safe or that my belongings would be safe here as there was not a soul around and it's in the middle of nowhere. We arrived at 10pm after a long bus journey to find that the '24 hour hostel' had nobody there. I rung the bell and I could hardly hear the guy on the other end the signal was so bad so it took ages to actually understand what was going on. He said oh sorry we work remotely. He also added that he would come tomorrow to get the payment and it was no issue. Eventually I got in and managed to find my room. The hostel was completely empty - not a soul there and not a welcoming atmosphere. I'm glad my boyfriend was with me thats for sure. It would be very eerie staying there as a solo traveller. When we got into the room I WhatsApped him to ask what time breakfast is since its included (one of the main reasons I booked here) and he replied that he is sorry but there is no breakfast. I said what do you mean? He said I will discount your room for you. I said ok. Then he messaged asking if I'll be paying by cash or card I replied I'm not sure and will decide in the morning since it was already 10.45pm and I had been travelling. I literally wasn't sure if I wanted to pay by card or cash since it was near the end of my trip. He said I'll send you a PayPal receipt to pay now on PayPal but I said I didn't want to pay on PayPal as they charge me due to it being in a different currency, he said no it doesn't. I said yes it does. I replied saying you said it was ok to pay tomorrow its not my fault that nobody was here to take payment on arrival. Then he said oh if you want your breakfast discount you must pay now. This was very weird as he had already said it was not an issue to pay tomorrow but then after an hour decided he wanted it immediately. Bearing in mind it was now after 11pm. It seemed alot of people leave because the place is so bad hence why he was pushing me after saying it was ok to pay the next day. He then messaged saying if you don't want to stay there just leave, out of nowhere. I'm like eh??? What do you mean? In the end I was booked for 2 nights but got up early the next morning and messaged him to say I was leaving and I would leave the cash on the bed for the 1 night. I just felt so uncomfortable and weird about the whole situation mainly due to the contact with the '24 hour host'. He did not discount for breakfast and he actually replied telling me I was due 120 pesos more than it was for the 1 night. When I sent him screenshots of the price from hostelworld and the amount I'd already paid as a deposit, he said very rudely back 'honestly pay whatever you want, it's such a headache'. I'm a headache??? Honestly the host is so rude, unhelpful and not worth the hassle. The place is not only in the middle of nowhere (nothing around like cafes, shops etc), there's no drinking water, you cannot use any of the facilities and there is not a person there (not even workers). Dont waste your money getting an expensive taxi here and don't waste your time trying it out. Not worth it! Book somewhere else closer to the beach that's a little more expensive, it's 1000% worth the tiny bit extra. It's a shame this place has so much potential if they cared about their guests.
