MY SECOND HOME
the best place to go for fun, relax if you want
and the food is excellent. They even have wildlife running around, the best time to see the animals is early morning.

Its Struggling to BE WHAT it ONCE WAS.
Been here many times. building is needing constant work at this age. the things that we like - turtles, pools, fish and snorkel are still FANTASTIC. Food and hospitality is starting to go down. Some pools were not up to USA standards and were cloudy and dingy. some just needed skimming and drains cleaned. POOL maintenance is letting down the managers of this resort. My heart is with Barcelo Riveria Maya - so Ill probably go back.

Fantastic Resort and Good Food. This is our 5th time at Barcelo Maya Resort. Return Customers Not Recognized.
We enjoyed Barcelo Maya Resort. The food is great, but needs more variety for Breakfast and the Lunch buffet next to the pools. Additional vegan options would be appreciated as well. This is our 5th time at this resort. The last time we were here, we were told the 5th time would be rewarded with some free upgrades or amenities, but when we asked about this they said there was nothing they could do because not all 5 visits were booked with them directly. The first 2 visits were booked through Expedia. This was a little disappointing, but we still had a great time. A little more effort to clear the sargassum during the day should be arranged to ensure visitors can enjoy the beach more.

I would 100% return
We had a birthday and wedding anniversary trip to Barcelo. This is a very beautiful resort and also very clean and well maintained. The service is also top notch. We had a little issue on check-in which they quickly fixed. Only bump down is the bed comfort. They need new beds. The grounds are very beautiful. The food is great. The drinks are well made and not watered down.
The access to the Maya Mall is wonderful. We realized there was no reason to go town for shopping. There is no aggressive upselling of tours. These are huge resorts which don't feel crowded.

Great trip
We loved the Barceló Maya Tropical. Went with two teens and my husband. Here is the breakdown:
Food: good
Buffets: Good can get repetitive get there early for breakfast. Would’ve liked themes each night to get more variety.
À la Carte restaurant: book as soon as you get there. Santa Fe steakhouse ask for less cooked than you normally would they can’t gadget medium to well done, still tasty.
Capri: amazing
Tratoria: good but not as good as Capri and I was upset that they mixed the cold cuts with the salami at the antipasto bar as the mortadella had pistachios in it which limited my don from eating it due to his nut allergy there was definitely cross contamination. Nuts should never be on the same tray do he ate salad instead.
Beach: no sargassum they cleaned it with machines but bring water shoes. If you go to the Mays beach no rocks in the water.
Pool: awesome
Lobby Bar: Abraham G is awesome.
Beds: not so good I complained and they did something to make it better but too soft something for the hotel to think of changing they were definitely overused.
Entertainment: good performers terrible shows very boring. No Michael Jackson or Rick night everything was jazzy or cabaret especially back to back. They had karaoke one night it was supposed to be adults ended being parents with their kids, parents were not singing and the kids sang the night before. The staff should also limit the number of kids running around and on the stage by making an announcement ahead of time it takes away from the performance.
Overall liked the hotel but I think more signage as to how to get around would’ve helped they didn’t give us a map of the resort, they said they didn’t have any do we kept looking at a picture of the hotel on the wall in the lobby.
I would recommend this hotel but I would give it a 4.5 not a 5. Needs a little upgrade in terms of rooms and shows.
