Good old fashioned hotel, right in the middle of Mariental and not 20 klms outside town as Trip Advisor states

As per the other reviews I agree with most of the comments
Slowish service ? But you are in the middle of nowhere so does that really matter ?)
Not very well trained staff ( also middle of nowhere so does that really matter also)
Rooms we’re comfortable, clean and about three star facilities
Bed was comfortable
Off street parking right outside your door
Dinner was good ( for a rural area in the middle of nowhere readers ….. )
Don’t expect Haute Cuisine but is was cheap and cheerful
Breakfast was included and was good and served promptly and with a smile
Not a bad place for a stopover
Room, breakfast and supper with a bottle of KEV Cabernet for R1500.00
How bad can that be guys

Pleasant surprise in Mariental!

A few weeks before driving to Windhoek I calculated that I will reach Mariental at about 8pm, departing again the next morning at 06h00. I searched the internet for an inexpensive room for the night and liked the Mariental Hotel, thinking it may be just what I want – a traditional, old-style place good enough for the night. I mean, how bad can it be?
When I arrived, I thought “Oh-oh”. The outside looked really run down, as if it had not seen a coat of paint in years. Youths were lounging around the entrance and noticing a Gambling Room entrance I double checked if I had the right address. Upon entering the dingy, dark reception area I was greeted in a friendly manner by the youths and an efficient-looking lady at the reception desk welcomed me warmly. She knew I was coming and directed me around the building into the secure yard, with parking right in front of my room, number 8.
What a pleasant surprise awaited me. The room was clean and tidy, the lounge, bar and dining room areas were tastefully modernized. From the inside no sound could be heard from the Gambling Room and there was no street noise. The staff were super friendly, efficient and made me feel completely at home. Dinner was served quick, in good style and was as good as any at the four-star lodges we usually frequent.
I rate this hotel as a pleasant venue.

Not recommended

We only stayed one night. We had dinner at the restaurant where the service was extremely slow, unprofessional and poorly trained. They did not know the drinks we ordered and we had to whistle to get their attention. We waited an hour and a half for our food to be served and this while we were the only guests. The next morning there were no electricity or warm water. When we complained, we were informed that it was due to solar panels being installed. We were not informed about this when we booked in. We had breakfast where the service was poor again. The manager happened to pass by and we complained again. She offered no apology or remedy to the situation, but rather that we should be out by 10 anyway ( this was 8:15). We will NOT recommend this hotel because we travelled for 23 days through Namibia and this was the worst experience.

Not a bad place for individuals/business people passing through Mariental

I spent a night at the Mariental Hotel while I was in the region on business. The hotel is well located and close to the center of Mariental town. They offered secure parking within the premises, although, I found it could get very tight when more guests had cars parked inside the yard.
The rooms were clean and, despite being close to the road, did not have any problems with interference from outside noise. The room I was in (8) was in need of a fresh coat of paint, the shower had no soap holders and the sink leaked a little, leaving a small puddle on the bathroom floor.
The dining area was well furnished and spacious. The meal I had was well prepared, tasty and of adequate portions. The kitchen even prepared a packed lunch for me as I was departing early the next morning.The only let down here was the service. The waitresses, although pleasant, took forever to bring me a menu and even longer to bring me my food.
The hotel has a bar, a club and a gambling venue, all of which did not disrupt my sleep.
All in all, the Mariental hotel is a comfortable enough place to lay ones head/for a short stay for the individuals/business people who finds themselves in this region of Namibia.

OK for an overnight stop but not very comfortable

Location is OK right in the small unattractive town of Mariental.
Room was old and run down, small beds, leaky shower. Electric kettle did not work, nor did replacement. Third one worked!
Restaurant was very slow to deliver marginal food. Breakfast was OK. poor value for money.
