Exceptional Stay with Excellent Service and Comfort – Highly Recommended!
I stayed at this hostel for a month (extended after a week) due to its excellent service and comfortable atmosphere. Beautifully designed with a natural vibe, it features an aquarium and relaxing decor. The hostel is spotless, with twice-daily room cleaning, comfortable beds, and free high-speed 5G WiFi. The kitchen and lobby are simply outstanding—all at an unbelievably low price
One of the most unique experiences was the soothing sound of the aquarium water. I used to sleep with headphones and relaxing Natural water sounds always , but here, the natural water sound plays , creating a fantastic sleep environment—especially at night.
The staff is exceptional—polite, well-trained, and always ready to help. Special thanks to the daytime shift team, especially Ms. Shruti, Mr. Prakash, and Mr. Nabin, for their professionalism and kindness. Their dedication truly made my stay special.

The only minor downside was the night shift receptionist, who could be more polite and respectful in his interactions. A little improvement in attitude would make the experience flawless. Apart from that, everything was perfect! I truly enjoyed my stay, felt comfortable, and had a great sleep

Serious saftety issues hidden behind beautiful design and attractive ammenitites.
When I first entered my room I noticed all the windows were open and the fan was on full speed. I assumed the staff was just airing the room out after a guest which seemed normal, so I shut the windows, turned off the fan, grabbed what I needed and left for the day. When I returned that night, the smell of (what I thought was) sewer gas was so powerful in the room it was unbearable. I opened all the windows again, and turned the fan on, and still woke up several times with a headache.
I asked the manager if sewer gas was an issue for the building or just the room. He said, "No, it’s probably the cooking gas. Everything here is powered by gas." which would have explained my headache.
I expressed my concern about carbon monoxide poisoning to the manager several times.
He promised me it wasn’t something I should worry about and that he’d have someone take care of the smell. I returned to a room without the smell later that day. The smell returned very briefly as the hot water appliance kicked on for a shower, confirming for me that un-combusted gas was in fact the smell all along, not sewer gas. For a few hours there was no leak, but it happened again that evening.
The gas line enters the room through the window and the line is not rigid, but instead a cross braided hose that looks closer to the type used for soda machines in the states; so each time the bathroom window is opened the line is stretched.
The hotel manager had very good English, as did at least one of the other staff I spoke with, and each brushed off the concerns in a way that to me suggested a familiarity with the problem, an understanding of the risk, and a casual dismissal of concern. I asked repeatedly for them to turn the gas off, but it remained on and leaking for an hour or so while I packed to leave. They did not offer me a refund, they did offer me another room, I declined.
The attitude of management toward CO poisoning made expounding on the arguably MORE serious safety problems in the building seem worthless to me, so I DID NOT bring these up to staff, I am instead doing it here.
The multi-level bar and restaurant structure on the roof is a grave concern. I am not a structural engineer, but my professional work is related to building code compliance, and I have a far better than average eye for spotting safety hazards in construction. Significant structural elements are out of level and plumb. Loads are often carried to the floor instead of posts. Shear forces are being managed by bent rebar. There are half-finished and inconsistent welds, splices in crucial structural assemblies, similar issues with notching.
The structure is three or four stories depending on how you count it and judging by the available seating and the few nights I was there regularly hosts 80+ people, maybe many more. This is not a dance club, but it is a bar, with music, drinking, dancing, and servers. I experienced a variety of dynamic loads while there, including servers racing around and people dancing. The floors of the upper levels flexed and bounced under my feet when I walked on them.
My concerns about this structure are of the most serious kind. If you or your children are considering staying at this hotel I would advise, with the deepest concern for your lives, that you avoid it.
Finally, there was a burned through plastic ashtray in my room. No Smoke detectors I could see. A few smaller, older, extinguishers without service tags, and various electrical hazards. Common or not in Nepal, also concerning.
I am NOT an expert in Nepali building code. But, my professional life in the US has afforded me enough knowledge of unsafe building practices that I feel a sense of duty to express how serious I think these safety concerns are.
I hope this review reaches the eyes of the owners, managers, board members, cooperative alliance, or whoever is governing this very beautiful complex of businesses and they take it seriously. Please hire a structural engineer and get a professional safety assessment.

Good Value, though not a social place for Solo Backpackers
Excellent value. Hot showers and WiFi throughout. For the price paid I can't justify less than 5/5, though I would say that if you're looking to meet people this probably isn't the best option as a solo traveller. Only one nationality generally frequents this place and consequently there isn't the social vibe you'd expect from a hostel. Moreover, the rooftop restaurant is indeed a restaurant and not a chill place. Aside from the above, there is a kitchen and the staff are great

Not Freak Street of the 60s, But Close Enough
I'm an American who's lived in Nepal for 25 years now and went to YOG for the first time just today. This is the real Doo. Not Freak Street of the '60s, but close enough :) Great Chicken Sizzlers and better prices. But it's the place and the people that make YOG great, and also makes me nostalgic for the good old hippie days of yore.

Bed fleas in shared rooms beware.
Be very careful with the shared rooms, I read such good comments about this hostel and it was my worst experience in the 4 months traveling in Asia, we stayed 5 nights and in the shared rooms I suffered from many bed flea bites like never before in my life It was really very ugly, the worst thing is that when I let the receptionists know that they are kind, they immediately changed my room and then everything was fine, but the ugliest thing is that I went to see the bed where those animals bit me and I was settled ready to continue renting it and I was not the only one that happened to another roommate, they got stung all over the face but he was already leaving that day.
