The best accommodation to visit beautiful Patan.

Set in a beautiful, perfectly restored Newari palace, Hotel Pahan Chhen overlooks Patan's beautiful Durbar Square (or Lalitpur), which can also be seen from the restaurant's stunning rooftop terrace. Professional welcome and always friendly, helpful and competent staff. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and quiet, equipped with everything you need for a pleasant stay; the cleaning service and linen change is carried out every day and the bathrooms are perfectly equipped. All areas of the hotel are always spotlessly clean and tidy. Very good and varied breakfast, which is freshly prepared on an order basis. Strategic location for cultural visits, shopping, restaurants. The best accommodation to visit beautiful Patan.

Great location and fabulous staff

Beautiful hotel a few yards from the main historic square in Patan. Our room was large and it had a fantastic rain shower. The rooftop terrace has great views and it’s a lovely place to sit of an afternoon. The staff are fantastic too and one of them makes the best morning coffee in Kathmandu,

Staying Right in Durbar Square in a Dream: Patan's Best Hotel

This is a hotel that I would never forget. It had the best rainshower in all of Nepal with every possible deluxe amenity and was beautiful, like an ancient palace, and right on the Patan Durbar Square. My room was on the 2nd floor and was enormous and everything was immaculately clean. I stayed here for several nights while traveling alone for 25 days through Nepal and it was a good place to unwind. Also, I commend the incredible room service -- it was utterly delicious and they have a VERY good cook here who makes amazing paneer curry dishes in particular and all around with a great variety. In January, it remained warm in my room. Also the beds and bedding were exceptional warm and comfortable and sometimes it was a touch hard to get up and go!
And with being tired towards the end of a long trip, it was a lovely place to spend time. Very sweet service everywhere. And you can step outside right into Durbar Square, which is amazing. It's easily the absolute best hotel in Patan.
Only a few things to consider: the restaurant outside of the hotel is seedy and I found the people there to be aggressively pushy until they realized I would not buy panipuri from them. Also, they had a very awful dog. Most dogs in Nepal are really sweet but this one was poorly trained. This is certainly not the hotel's fault but if it were my hotel, I would try buying the restaurant from the man.
The only other thing is do bring earplugs. This will sound crazy! But there are loud pigeons all over and they coo in the windows, so just know that.
Otherwise, this is a complete dream of a hotel and you will feel like you have gone back in time, into a beautiful dream. So atmospheric! I recommend two nights for this city, maybe three, as it has a great deal to see -- but be careful of the motorcycles because they really pack the roads! There are some amazing off-the-beaten-path spots here, and also, I enjoyed the Zoo, which you can walk to in about ten minutes. It's a great place to wander around, just very crowded. This makes the hotel an oasis. I stayed in and enjoyed reading at night :)

Heart of Patan: A Charming Retreat at Pahan Chhen

During Tihar 2024, I needed a comfortable base in Patan for two weeks and discovered Pahan Chhen Hotel right in the heart of Patan Durbar Square. We ended up staying ten days—and loved every minute of it. The staff couldn’t have been more warm or accommodating; from the moment we arrived, they made us feel entirely at home.
The location is unbeatable: step outside the door and you’re immediately immersed in the daily ceremonies, processions, and vibrant energy of Durbar Square. Temples, artisans’ workshops, and lively markets are all just a short stroll away, making sightseeing effortless.
Whether you’re here for the festivals or simply to explore Kathmandu, Pahan Chhen is our first choice—and we’ll definitely be back on our next trip.
