Very nice hotel, convenient location.

The hotel was very nice and in a great location. The breakfast provided by the hotel was very tasty. Our very distinguished waiter CARLOS provided us with excellent and personable service every morning we were there. The hotel itself was a bit slow in keeping our rooms tidy. We had to request our rooms be cleaned and towels replaced several times. Staff was professional and made us feel welcome. Albert Hein market right across the street.

Beautiful property in an excellent central location. The staff was kind and courteous and held my bags after checkout for the afternoon. Since I was traveling solo I opted for the most basic room. The room was on the small side, typical for Europe, but well appointed with everything I needed and a wonderful view over the main square as a bonus. I also chose this hotel because it seemed to have a decent fitness center and it didn’t disappoint. Everything was clean and well-maintained. I would absolutely stay here again and would book a larger room if I was with my spouse.

Love this historic hotel and the location!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoy staying at this historic art deco hotel. The location is perfect as it’s close to numerous restaurants, shopping, and the museum district. The breakfast is excellent and we thought our room was very comfortable. This is our second stay and we will stay here again. I do t understand the negative reviews. All the staff were courteous and professional.

A Wonderful Hotel in the Heart of Amsterdam

The Clayton Hotel is truly a fantastic place to stay in Amsterdam. We have been coming here for over 40 years! Of course, the hotel has changed names a few times over the years, but we have always known and loved it as the American Hotel.
It has such a special charm and character. The restaurant and bar are absolutely beautiful, with gorgeous Art Deco details that make dining there a wonderful experience. The location is perfect — right in the heart of Amsterdam, with many of the city’s attractions within easy walking distance.
The reception staff are exceptionally helpful, friendly, and personable, which makes you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and if you have the opportunity, I highly recommend requesting a room overlooking the canal.
The hotel also has a wonderful gym, and we have found it to be pleasantly uncrowded, which is a real bonus.
After returning here for more than four decades, we can honestly say that the Clayton Hotel remains one of our favorite places to stay in Amsterdam. We highly recommend it and look forward to coming back again!

Bed Bug Infestation

Don’t stay here. Hotel room was infested with bed bugs. My son was terribly bitten and so was I. We ended up bringing them home and still dealing with getting rid of them. Very poor hygiene. Bathroom reaked of urine. Notified hotel management, but they chose to dismiss the body injury and trauma. Unfortunately, the bites were discovered a day after we checked out of hotel. Just horrible experience and ruined the remainder of our trip.
