Comfortable hotel, with spacious bed and nice view to the Amstel river. Excellent breakfast buffet. Hotel staff was nice and helpful and the hotel also offers discounts on tickets to several Amsterdam attractions. The location is a disadvantage, though I chose Mercure for having a bigger room and an elevator, essential if you have a lot of luggage. The nearest subway station is a little bit far (about 10-15 min walking), but by Uber you arrive at the city center in 10-15 minutes.

Deceiving

The room was shockingly small for the price we paid. Not really any space to move.
It was not clean. Hair from the previous Hotel guest everywhere in the bathroom. We talked to the staff, before we left for the city. When we came back, some of the hair was gone, but still everything else looked unclean.. Couldn't take a shower, cause the water was not draining. We called the Staff again. They took care of the problem. But for the price we paid, it's not ok for everything to be unclean and not in order.
Would have be nice to get a bigger room and at least a small compensation for having to call the Staff because things are not as they should be for a 4-Star hotel.

Short and pleasant stay at this hotel in Amstel

Stayed at the Mercure Amsterdam in the Amstel area with my family for a short three‑day visit in mid‑August. I must confess I was a bit worried beforehand because several recent reviews mentioned serious A/C issues during the summer. Fortunately, everything went well — the A/C kept the room at a comfortable temperature without any problems. Check‑in was slower than expected due to some confusion about my prepaid reservation, but it was quickly resolved by a very charming and efficient front desk lady, Simona (if I’m not mistaken), along with another colleague on duty that evening. The room was exactly as advertised — clean, comfortable and well maintained. High praise for the breakfast service: it was superb. Check‑out was fast and easy as well. The only downside is the location. “Short walking distance” is a sugar‑coated way of putting it. The hotel isn’t particularly close to a metro, train, or bus station, so you should expect a 20‑plus‑minute walk to reach public transport. There’s no airport shuttle either, so unless you use private transport, getting around requires a bit more planning. Of course, once you arrive, you can make use of the rental bicycles available outside and reach anywhere in Amsterdam. Overall, a good one.

However, we regret that our location and the absence of an airport shuttle made getting around less convenient for you. We realize that reaching public transport from our hotel can require some extra planning and appreciate you highlighting this aspect. Within a 10 minutes walk you'll find 2 metro-stations : Overamstel and Spaklerweg.

Modern hotel with very nice room, especially the bathroom. Perfect aircondition on hot days. Easy check-in and drinks for privelige guests. Spacious fridge and lots of charging possibilities. The breakfast was all right, but nothing special with some events of slow refilling of empty items. The location is a little off the main path with over a kilometer to the nearest (open) metrostop and stores/restaurants. The fitness room was extremely disappointing - smaller than our hotelroom, a few treadmilles, some free weights and a machine out of order. Way too small for such a large hotel. And the wifi was quite unreliable - kept falling out and had to reconnect. Streaming/casting to the tv didn't work. And irritating that some sockets turned off along with the lights and made it impossible to charge near the extra bed at night. Overall - quite good, but expensive in the middle of July.
