The Stayokay Vondelpark was great for our family of 6 - we stayed in a room with bunkbeds and a private washroom and shower, which was convenient. Its location was great a 30 min bus ride from the airport and walking distance to all the museums and restaurants.

Seriously low standard of hygiene (even for a hostel)

There was a mouse in the food and drink area multiple nights (i assume every night but can’t say for sure) and the staff laughed when I told them and said “that’s our friend” and made no attempt to even shoo the rodent out. When I brought this complaint to management they were sure to correct me and say that it was a mouse, not a rat. When I complained further they told me that I could have a complimentary overnight stay, which is safe to say I cannot afford and will not be accepting as I do not want to visit that place ever again. Partial refund is definitely the minimum of what I could be receiving as I have autism and felt extremely unsafe in this establishment. I would do 0 stars if I could. Unfortunately I can’t attach the video of the rodent but there is a photo attached.

Nice place

We took a private room and were satisfied with our stay. This accommodation is well suited for those who want to visit museums, as several are located in the area. There is also a grocery store nearby, as well as a river where you can take a canal cruise.
The reception staff are friendly and helpful. It is also convenient that you can buy stamps and postcards at the reception desk, and there is even a mailbox right there on the premises.

We stayed in a twin comfort room which had its own bathroom which was good.
Before checking in, the hotel sent out an email asking if we wanted to include the breakfast buffet and the dinner deal to our stay. We opted for both. The breakfast buffet was acceptable and after a busy day of sightseeing, it was good to not have to worry about where to go for dinner. I loved the decor in the dining area and the staff behind the bar were friendly and social.

Mice living in the bar

Great welcome by staff
Seemed quite clean but room much smaller than photos indicated. It was very cramped with sink right by the bunk beds so any toilet visit woke the other person up washing hands. Any other hostel I have been in the bunk is in with the toilet. Tap was stuck on hot and there was no cold water. It was scolding.
Ordered a drink in the bar area just before it closed. As soon as the bar was empty of people the mice came out from under it!! Running all over the place (this is right near the restaurant too)
I went to tell the receptionist and he just laughed at me and said "oh yes we know about the mice, they live there hahaha"
Not okay. I have stayed in lots of youth hostels and have never seen rodents inside! The attitude was really shocking. Rodents carry serious disease and I just left my wine and went upstairs.
The place is a great location, lovely and bright. Would have given 4 stars if not for the attitude to rodent infestation.
