Good hotel for one or two nights
The reception at the hotel was friendly and went smoothly, partly because we had already checked in online. We got there around 2pm and our room wasn't ready, so we decided to have a drink in the foyer first. There was nothing to criticize about the service and drinks, but it was noticeable that the furniture and especially the sofas were quite dated.
After we got the pass for our room (6), we went to our room. We had booked a romantic upgrade, so the bed was nicely made with rose petals and a bottle of cool prosecco was waiting. Actually, there was little to criticize about the room, except that there were stains in the carpeting.
Apparently something went wrong here during the cleaning, because it looked like the color had been bitten out. I prefer that to other stains in the carpet, but it doesn't look so neat.
Beds, like pillows, are a personal taste. We found them reasonable, at least good enough for one night.
The climate cannot be controlled separately (there is no air conditioning); that is something to keep in mind, especially in the summer months, because the external doors of the rooms can only open ajar.
If you have smokers sitting next to you who end the day and start to bring up their nicotine needs, as in our case, your day ends with a room that smells like cigarette smoke and you start the day again.
As far as we are concerned, there will also be a smoking ban on the terraces and balconies!
The breakfast was good. There was plenty of choice in bread, toppings and attachments. There was also fruit, granola and yogurt for lovers. The breakfast may have been just a little less extensive than you get at some other hotels of the Toucan, but in our view certainly not v.d. Falcon unworthy!
The dinner we found more than adequate, but also no more than that. There are restaurants of Van der Valk where the cuisine is really better, but it was completely full.
The hotel would be nominated for new construction or renovation. You're starting to see everywhere that it's dated, but it's a great location to spend one or two nights.

Worth more than 5 stars
Unfortunately, my husband fell the first night and was seriously injured. The receptionist helped us immediately and took care of the severe bleeding and called for emergency care. Reviews always refer to room, beds etc. as also above. But we have found that help in the event of emergencies is at least as important.
Staff thank you so much for your help. We are guaranteed to come back again, but without inconvenience.
