This family-run hotel, located in the beautiful green Geul valley, has been offering hospitable accommodation since 1902. You can relax on the terrace with a snack and a drink or play a game of billiards in the bar. The location of the hotel is ideal for visiting the most important cultural and historical cities of Maastricht, Aachen and Liège. A monumental building from 1898 that exudes a homely atmosphere due to the many antiques and curiosities. If you are looking for a modern sterile design hotel, then you have definitely come to the wrong place. You will find the Limburg hospitality; people are friendly, friendly and cozy. OUR LOVE OF HOTEL DE KROON, EPEN, NETHERLANDS WILL NEVER GO AWAY.
You will not find another hotel where a personal welcome by the Landlord is greater anywhere. Don't expect to be greeted in 'Top Hat and Tails'....but the welcome and hospitality throughout your stay will be of the best.. Frits the Landlord will make sure of that. He is such a friendly, and jovial guy who likes good clean fun and laughter..
To confirm that my next visit ( 10 days in May 2019 ) goes equally as well, I travelled for a three day holiday to see Frits (privatelly at my forthcoming DE KROON. ) and could see that he was all set up and ready for the Holliday Season. I could see that my forthcoming holiday in May was going to be another fantastic holiday .like I have always had at the HOTELE DE KROON, EPEN, SOUTH LIMBURG, probably in my opinion the BEST HOTEL you will stay at in EPEN. I WILL CERTAINLY BE BACK IN THE MONTH OF MAY FOR 10 DAYS...THAT'S HOW MUCH I LOVE HOTEL DE KROON.

HOTEL DE KROON - SUCH AN ENJOYABLE HOLIDAY EVERY TIME
We enjoyed each of our previous 4 holidays in EPEN, so much, that we simply had to return for yet another stay at Hotel De Kroon, where Frits Keijenberg (Proprietor) goes out of his way to ensure that our stay at the hotel, is a very enjoyable stay and nothing but the best.
During our last stay at Hotel De Kroon, we were fortunate to watch the European Football Championship finals at the hotel, on the large screen colour television (one of several televisions in the bar and lounge ) and it was a good friendly gesture by Frits to display the flags of the nations of guests staying at the hotel, including our own draped on the walls of the hotel.
Besides the great welcome and comforts that the hotel afforded us, what we really liked was the friendliness of the Keijenberg family, all of whom spoke perfect English; and it was good to be able to engage in a friendly chat with them.
We particularly like the bar at the hotel, where there is a good selection of quality lager on draught and bottles ( also a large variety of spirits and liquors of quality brand names and soft drink mixers ). During our stay at the hotel, we took a liking to the 'PALM' Lager on draught which was always drawn cold, clear and refreshing from the bar pump. It was always a very satisfying drink. Besides the very enjoyable local Dutch brews that EPEN has to offer, there are many enjoyable famous Belgian brews with a very high % abv - alcohol strength available ( BEWARE !! ).
The hotel attracted guests mainly from the Netherlands and Belgium, some of whom we had the pleasure to meet up and chat with. It is also visited by the friendly local residents who use the games room to play mainly billiards, and they do so at very high standards. The hotel has a peaceful and enjoyable trouble free atmosphere, and both the lounge and the bar are very relaxing to spend ones' leisure time at.
There was never an evening that went by at the bar without us having a good laugh. Frits is a friendly jovial man of character, and kept the tears of laughter rolling down our cheeks; it was great fun to listen to his occasional jokes and funny sayings.
It has been a great pleasure to return to Hotel De Kroon and meet up with Frits and his family time and time again. He really does make our holiday that much more enjoyable, and as I say, Hotel De Kroon is like a magnet to us.
The little peaceful town of EPEN has everything we need. A spacious car park at the rear of Hotel De Kroon ( for guests and customers ). The local SPA Supermarket and Post Office, within a few yards (metres) distance - opposite Hotel De Kroon. An ATM Cash Points nearby. There is a bus stop within a few yards walking distance from the hotel. ( Maastricht ( Vrijtof Square) and the famous Valkenburg Markets, and also Aachen, Germany are just a short journey away by bus ).
If you are looking for a holiday in Europe, whether you are a couple, a family, friends, solo or even a group, and want a peaceful, trouble free, enjoyable holiday, then I would recommend Hotel De Kroon, EPEN, Netherlands, which is a little town into a beautiful countryside, away from the ' hustle and the bustle ' of city life. Frits will ensure that your holiday will be enjoyable and one to remember.

A VERY ENJOYABLE STAY AT 'HOTEL DE KROON' , EPEN, NETHERLANDS
We returned to this hotel during the last week of March, 2016 following the Easter Holidays, and as usual, we received a very warm welcome from the friendly Keijenberg Family, who ensured that our stay was of the best; and it truly was.
HOTEL DE KROON is situated in the Heart of Epen ( 8 Wilhelminastraat ) and is little village town in South Limburg. It has a spacious car park at the rear of the hotel where the hotel's residents can freely park their car. Access to the hotel can be gained from the car park, or from the front of the hotel which faces out into Wilhelminastraat. Opposite the hotel is a small ' SPA SUPERMARKET ' which has a Post Office and Tourist Information Centre within the store, and all of which is of great convenience to holiday makers who need the occasional nic-nacs.
Also in the immediate area are several other hotels and restaurants. There is a bus stop very nearby ( a few metres away) for those who wish to explore South Limburg by bus at a very rate of fare.
The beautiful and interesting City of Maastricht is approximately 8 miles (approx 13 km away ) where Internationally renowned Maestro Andre Rieu (violinist) and his Johan Strauss Orchestra hold concerts in the Vrijthof Square. Also within a similarly close distance from HOTEL DE KROON, Epen, is VALKENBURG known for its famous annual Christmas Market . At other times of the year it is visited by many holiday makers for the purpose of shopping and dining at many of its restaurants, and visiting the ruins of the ancient castle at the gateway to the town. There is a 'first class ' gift shop known as 'THE TREASURE TROVE' on the main street, which has an amazing collection of beautiful good quality gifts on display for sale, and is well worth a visit.
HOTEL DE KROON in Epen, has a considerable selection of pamphlets freely available to residential guests, which will assist those who wish to explore the region for places of entertainment and leisure. The hotel is very clean throughout and has comfortable furniture It has a bar area at which to sit and enjoy a drink, and also a lounge area where one can relax, read the newspapers, or watch one of several coloured televisions on a large TV Screen, each of which offers several channels in Dutch or English.
At the rear of the premises is a ' games room' where a quiet game of Dutch 3 Ball billiards can be played. . There are also several other box games available for those that wish to engage in a sporting friendly challenge.
The bar of the hotel offers a choice of Belgian and Dutch beers on draught and in bottles, and for those who enjoy a glass of good wine, a liqueur or spirits, there is a considerable variety of brands to choose from.
The bedroom was spacious, carpeted and its walls of clean décor. The beds within were very comfortable with clean fresh bedding with duvet and comfy pillows which afforded a good peaceful night's sleep. The bathroom had a spacious walk-in shower cubicle and was cleanly tiled all around. The shower unit itself was in very good working order and had variable hot/cold mixer control taps which could be adjusted to one's own desired temperature. Toiletries were provided within and clean towels always at hand.
A good and substantial continental breakfast was available in the mornings, before starting the planned day ahead.
The Proprietor 'Frits' is a very sociable person; always jovial with his guests. He has a great sense of humour and goes out of his way to ensure that his guests are happy during their stay.
We enjoyed our stay so much so, that we have already booked yet another holiday at HOTEL DE KROON later this year. I recommend this hotel and its location at Epen to holiday makers who are in search of a quiet relaxing accommodation in the Netherlands. HOTEL DE KROON is where hospitality begins and friendship never ends.
A variety of Post cards are also available on sale there.
For those who wish to have a quiet, peaceful and trouble free holiday, then HOTEL DE KROON is the hotel to stay.

FULL MARKS TO HOTEL DE KROON, EPEN, A GREAT HOTEL TO STAY AT ON HOLIDAY.
We chose to travel to EPEN by car, driving from Gloucester to Dover Ferry Port , boarding P & O Ferries and crossing the English Channel to Calais Ferry Port, France, which was a very smooth crossing which took 90 minutes. Having left the Ferry Ship, we had a trouble free and pleasant drive from the French Ferry Port of Calais on the E 40 ( Motorway ) Route, which took us through Belgium and onwards to EPEN, South Limburg, Holland, which was a three and a half hour drive, which included a couple of short breaks on the way for refreshment at service stations, where we also took advantage of filling the car up with diesel fuel at a much lower price ( 94 p per litre ) as opposed to the considerably higher cost of £1.26 back home in the UK., a saving of over £1.45 per gallon for diesel.
Upon our arrival at Hotel De Kroon, EPEN, we were warmly welcomed by Frits Keijenberg, the proprietor of the hotel, which was a family run business and assisted by great staff, together known as the 'Crown Team'. Frits immediately provided us with refreshments after our long journey by road. Following this, we were shown a choice of rooms on the first floor. The rooms were very cleanly decorated and well furnished. with adequate room in the wardrobe to accommodate and hang plenty of personal clothing for the fortnight. A safe was available for use in the room. The beds were very comfortable and had very clean bedding which was changed throughout our stay. The bathroom was fitted with a good quality toilet and a first class spacious shower unit , and easy to regulate and mix the constant supply of hot water with the cold supply to a desired temperature of one's choice. A clean supply of towels was provided throughout our stay. The room itself was spacious, and had a lockable glass door leading out onto balcony where chairs and tables were placed for those wishing to enjoy outside relaxation in the fresh air, without having to leave the hotel. The room also had a telephone, and colour TV., with remote control. Pictures hung on the wall, enhanced the comfort of the room. A first class new kettle was provided in the room along with biscuits, sugar, milk tea and coffee supply. A ' wine cradle ' with two bottles of quality Merlot wine had been placed in the room as an awaiting 'welcome' gesture. We were well happy with this accommodation.
Along the corridors of the hotel were wall plaques of many designs and pictures of interest hung on the walls. Likewise with the ground floor, it was cleanly decorated, and had numerous pictures on the walls throughout. An interesting arrangement, some of which showed the little town of EPEN and Hotel De Kroon as far back in time as it was in 1902, but naturally had been structurally added to and altered over a period of time, and decorated to a degree which did not spoil its appearance.
The lounge with comfortable seating and place to relax, had several large colour TV's to view, which provided an excellent uninterrupted screen picture at all times. The news and many other channels could be viewed and listened to of one's choice.
At the back of the hotel was a large room which accommodated for those who wished to spend a little of their time playing various kinds of board games, darts or even billiards. Further in at the back of the room were double doors which went out onto a patio area which had tables and chairs, where one could enjoy a cool refreshing drink or a cup of coffee or tea. Leading from the rear ground floor patio was easy access to the car park to accommodate the parking of guests who had a car with them on holiday. Immediately at the front of the hotel was a terrace which overlooked into the street, and was furnished with chairs, tables and sun umbrellas; another area you could sit and relax over a cup of coffee or tea, a drink of alcohol, or other refreshing soft drinks.
The hotel's restaurant was spacious and also looked out onto Wilhelminastratt, EPEN, where other hotels were situated. It was a street where there was no heavy volume of traffic, but more cyclists could be seen than motor vehicles. It was very clean and peaceful area to be in. A post office was not far away to walk. and also an ATM ( wall cash point machine) Very handy for British holiday makers or others on differing currencies could withdraw cash in euro notes daily with use of their personal bankers card. There is a reliable and regular bus service which serves EPEN well and for those wishing to explore and go sightseeing in Limburg, can purchase a ticket from Hotel De Kroon at an exceptionally good price of just under 10 Euros ( approx. £7.50) for use over two days. EPEN is an ideal starting point and geographically positioned which will enable travel to places like the famous Valkenberg Market, Maastricht and its famous Vrijthof Square where Maestro Andre Rieu and his Johan Strauss Orchestra often plays, or even a bus ride to Achen , The borders of Belgium and Germany meet with Holland just a few miles away from EPEN, The border crossings present no problem whatsoever and is a free thoroughfare from country to country.
The food we ate at Hotel De Kroon was very enjoyable, and for the occasional ice cream we fancied on a warm day, we were recommended to pay a visit to a restaurant named Bij Giuseppe just approximately 100 + metres away from Hotel De Kroon. There, we had the most delicious ice cream that we had ever tasted, which was so creamy and also available in 12 different flavours. It was made by the restaurant's master chef using his own recipe, and served by Minou at a very reasonable price. It's delicious taste exceeded all others I had ever tried before.
We enjoyed every single moment at Hotel De Kroon, EPEN. Frits Keijenberg, also wife Margot and family, together with the Crown Team (staff) gave us a first class service and made our holiday a brilliant one. We have travelled to many countries in Western Europe, and in wanting to visit and see each one, our time in life does not allow us to return to the same country for another holiday, and would be a rare occasion to do so. However, we found that our holiday at EPEN was so enjoyable, that we broke tradition and returned there in June. I have to say, that we have strong temptations to go back yet again to Hotel De Kroon; to this great hotel which we have become so attached to.
We give it full marks, and would highly recommend a holiday stay at Hotel De Kroon..
