Still totally excited as a vegan
This was my second business trip to this hotel. The first time I stayed there for six weeks and was absolutely thrilled about it, and this second time was just as fantastic. From the vegan food to the room, everything was clean and comfortable. The food was, as always, excellent for a vegan. The fact that I got my favorite room again without asking for it was the icing on the cake. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff and the chef. See you next time! I'm already looking forward to it.

Have lunch at this hotel
Reserved and entered at 12 pm for lunch together with about 80 waiting. There is a wide range of cold vegetables , fish , various types of meats including carpaccio. O the tasty asparagus soup was excellent that day.. Different types of smoothies , coffee , sandwiches and coffee cakes fresh butter . The hot buffet is also well provided tasty, quality. I have no criticism whatsoever. Only in the past there was also a dessert buffet included and that is now gone. Too bad outside a small sugar wafer there is nothing to close .... One sits here very comfortably , quick clearing included by friendly staff and we are grateful that we could use their parking afterwards for a nice bike ride .

Very pleasant stay
The Van der Valk Middelburg is a delightful hotel, off the motorway near Middelburg. In typical Van der Valk fashion, the hotel is not in central Middelburg, but about 3km away from the station. This gives the hotel a remote feeling and the surroundings are very quiet, despite being very close to a motorway.
Check in was very smooth and you could write to the hotel beforehand to let them know if you wanted anything specific in your room (iron etc). The room was large and airy. It had good luggage storage, wardrobe, safe, work desk, comfortable double bed, tv, sofa and nespresso machine - all very new and functional. The bathroom was in two pieces - a large bathroom with two sinks, a walk in shower and a separate bath. There was a separate w/c. This was all very neat and clean, but I had two minor issues with the room. Firstly, there were about a hundred different lights in the room, but even if they were all switched on, the room was very dim. This could have been remedied with one decent light. Second, it was a bit odd that double rooms do not have a double duvet, but two single ones.
I used the restaurant and was impressed by the ambiance. The service was friendly and the food was decent enough.
The hotel has a 24 hour sales area for water and drinks, if the water in the room is not sufficient.
The best think about this hotel is the pool and spa area which guests can use. Beautifully maintained and clean. The pool is indoors, but with glass windows, so gives you the impression of being outside. Lots of sun loungers and the pool is lovely and large, with a waterfall. The spa area has an array of steam rooms, saunas, an ice cave and an ice bath. All beautifully maintained.
The hotel is on the more expensive side, but all in all, a great place to stay.

Disappointed
We were with a group of 10 people two nights at Van der Valk in Middelburg. Two out of 10 people have celiac disease and absolutely cannot tolerate gluten, this causes severe complaints. We dined the first evening in the restaurant, what was supposed to be gluten-free both people experienced huge complaints from the dinner.
We had breakfast both mornings. Indicated that we wanted to reserve a table for 10 people, so we could all have breakfast. The first morning the staff knew nothing about it and we were allowed to organize how we could have breakfast together. We sat in the lobby. We clearly agreed with the staff the same day that we wanted to have breakfast together the next morning. That would be fine, according to Van der Valk. Second morning we arrive at the breakfast room, there was a table reserved... but people were sitting at it. Van der Valk indicated that we should find another table. Staff have not taken responsibility for pointing people elsewhere. Three out of 10 people had to have breakfast standing up, unbelievable.
We reported all this at the desk when we checked out. The best gentleman behind the desk replied to our story, but we got the impression that this did not come in at all and was not taken seriously.

Very nice SPA facilities. Spacious hotel. Only complain is that the Angus Burger is completely processed. It was not pure beef as it should be. Don't go for this alternative.
