Fine and luxurious B&B, friendly staff
Fine and luxurious B&B. Breakfast also very good. The hostess friendly, and the employee who took care of the animals has our daughter very nice to help, very sweet lady. All positive. And the pool is obviously very nice. Only downside is the decking on the water sides which are loose.

Disappointing experience
my displeasure with a situation that occurred during my recent stay at Piaam State in Friesland. I was away with my children for a few days to unwind, but unfortunately an incident greatly affected my experience.
During our stay I was visited by my sister, who came by on the occasion of her birthday with her mother and daughter. Before she entered the premises, I went in twice to see if Antoinette was present so I could inform her of the visit. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anyone.
To my surprise, after my search I got to speak to two stunned people who told me that they were being looked at by someone very gruff. They said that this made them feel uncomfortable and that their presence was not appreciated. This surprised me, because I could not imagine Antoinette being so gaston friendly to my sister, who was only visiting for a short time.
When Antoinette saw me outside shortly afterwards, she immediately addressed us in a condescending way. We were made aware of the time when all the children had to leave the pool and were told that she absolutely did not think it could be that there were all people there. Her tone was such that the whole family no longer felt welcome. Even my children reported feeling uncomfortable, with the impression that we were a burden. Even when I indicated that I walked in twice to indicate that I have a short visit (about 45 minutes) and my sister apologized 3 times because she was very annoying, which I found completely unjustified. Antoinette insisted that she couldn't do it, called my visit "all people" and insisted that I should have called her if I didn't see her. Nothing was right. This has ruined my stay and had the opposite effect to what I had hoped for a relaxing getaway. We felt treated differently from the rest of the guests.
Throughout this situation, I have repeatedly wondered if this unfriendly treatment had anything to do with my skin color. This is a thought I find hard to ignore, given the way we were treated. I would therefore indicate that, based on this experience, I would not recommend this resort to people of color. This could potentially help them reduce the likelihood of similar treatment.
I am very sorry that such a situation has occurred, and I hope that this is an incident that is not characteristic of the atmosphere that this accommodation wants to convey.

So peaceful
We stayed 2 nights in standard family room which was a good size with a double bed, 3 singles, modern bathroom, garden view. It was very comfortable. Downstairs is a communal living area for all guests to use the kitchen, relax on the sofa and armchairs, eat the delicious breakfast. Communal but not intrusive at all, works very well as there is so much space. Also because the area is so peaceful, people walk around calm as if on a retreat. The garden is beautiful, with horses at the back, chickens walking around unrestricted, and there is a trampoline and swings for kids. Plus a very good size outdoor pool. The welcome was also very nice, we felt very welcome indeed. Piaam is a very small village and very pleasant. 2 km away is Makkum where there are local shops, cafes, restaurants. We had a lovely short vacation at Piaam State B&B.

Wonderful stay in a idyllic Friesian location
This was the second time we stayed in this beautifully restored Friesian farmhouse. The rooms are spacious and can accommodate up to 5 people. There is also a separate chalet in Friesian style if you plan on staying here with a group. In the spacious but cosy communal area you will find a charming reading area and 2 large wooden "farm" tables where you can enjoy your delicious breakfast. Don't forget to give the special Friesian sugar bread a try! It's absolutely mouth-watering. If you have special dietary needs be sure to inform your host on booking so she can make provisions. There is also a fridge, a microwave and a luxury "cooking island" in the communal area. This was great for us as we have children with food allergies.
The outside area also comes with a pool and a large grassy area with a table where you can relax and read a book or sip your coffee.
The hostess was lovely and made sure we had a great time. This is a perfect location for discovering Friesland and will definitely be back next year!

Ruim en verzorgd
Wat zo fijn is aan dit verblijf, is dat je zelf kunt koken. Twee grote tafels staan voor je klaar. Wij zijn dol op bordspelletjes, die we prima konden spelen aan deze tafels. Wel een steile trap, dus alleen boeken als je goed ter been bent.
