surprising discovery at the Werra

The hotel is quietly located in the village center. We had a very nice, spacious, and comfortable suite in the guesthouse. The restaurant offers a small menu with local and seasonal dishes. The quality is excellent, for example, lamb bolognese. This is complemented by a good and plentiful breakfast and friendly, family-like service. A wonderful stay, unfortunately we had to continue cycling.

Great food, excellent quality and competent service on the Werratal bike path!

We were really positively surprised how high quality and tasteful the dishes were. Every single dish was prepared with attention to detail and the quality of the ingredients exceeded our expectations. We were particularly impressed by the advice – the team was not only friendly but also extremely competent when it came to recommendations. So the high price is very justified.
All in all, we had a nice time here and would love to come back. Highly recommended!

A wonderful place for exploring this beautiful area

Stayed a couple of nights at this lovely, small hotel in Altenburschla. The family that runs it were very welcoming and helpful, the food was wonderful and the room was very nice. It makes a great base for exploring the Werra River Valley or as a stop along the lengthy, paved bike trails.

I came across the village and hotel by chance on a road trip to Dresden from UK. The village has a great simple, peaceful campsite by the river Werra ( the old East/West border). The local specialty of sausage, cabbage and potato far exceeded in taste what it sounds like in English. The service was perfect and the local beer, German red wine were taste sensations. There is also an excellent Garden Cafe near the campsite.

Idyllic setting, good food & wine

We passed by this hotel a couple of years ago but didn't have a chance to stop so this year we cycled approx. 40 miles to the hotel and stayed the night.
Altenburschla is a lovely quiet village with some beautiful traditional style german houses - it's the kind of place where you just want to sit down with a drink on watch the world go by.
The bedrooms are a good size and ours had a huge bathroom - there wasn't a bath in it, just a shower.
The hotel's restaurant pride itself on using local produce. The menu was interesting - a lot more diverse that the usual traditional german menus. I'm not a great fan of lamb, but I tried the lamb goulash and it was superb.
A cold buffet breakfast was served in the morning with the option to have freshly cooked eggs if required.
